Nope. It makes me giggle every time.

I understand where you guys are coming from but I never saw it that way. I guess if there was a space after OD I'm pretty sure the youngster in me would think that.

I've been a donor for years and always increase my donation each year. Like DaBigBlue, I pay monthly so that it is more affordable. One of the motivating factors is definitely seating for football and basketball, but we should all want to support our program to the best of our ability without worrying about "what's in it for me" (paying for $2/beer in the Big Blue Room is no big deal and it's actually made the pre-game experience a lot nicer without all the people who used to cram in there just for the free beers).

When you think about the growth our basketball and football programs recently, who wouldn't want to contribute to make it even better? More than ever, our programs is going to rely on fan donations, so dig in those pockets and ante up!

(No, I do not work for ODAF.) :-)

Very well attended. Probably more than 400. They announced there were 500 there.

As with any charitable organization there is never a deadline. But to your question 1 May appears to have been the deadline for football season ticket renewal and I'm guessing that 1 Sep is the deadline for basketball. Last year ODAF had 2825 members and this year to date 1841 have ponied up.

So you're saying we have about 1,000 fewer ODAF members at this point than we did last year? YIKES. I would have hoped the good home schedule and announcement of the stadium would have helped us see an increase.

No, I think it's the full year we had 2825 and so far we have 1841. We can probably expect a big bump in contributers once basketball season tickets start getting talked about.

July 31 Update

We are at $17.5 million (43% of $40 million goal). We need to encourage others and especially young alumni to donate to ODU.

12.2 million "total dollars raised" last year according to odaf....that appears to include revenue from seating and other sources. Having already reached 17.5 million in donations seems like a great accomplishment.

How long is the campaign to reach $40 mil? 3 years? 5? 10? Didn’t see that on the site.

I think its set to be raised over four years as part of a larger campaign with 40 MM going to Athletics. Here are the blurbs from the article in DP.

ODU Capital Campaign

The pace for ODU’s recently announced capital campaign is more measured. As articulated by university John Broderick, the goal is $200 million over four years, with $40 million earmarked for athletics.

Half of that $40 million is targeted for a second stadium enhancement — Selig calls it “Phase Two” — the other half for scholarships, annual and endowed, and a women’s volleyball program that’s set to begin competition in 2020.

My understanding is after the initial announcement in 2016 and this Article in the Daily Press 9/2017, the amount was bumped up and the new target for the overall fundraiser is NOW $250 Million.

If Selig and Broderick or singing from the same page in this song book, Selig is implying that a lot of the 2nd Phase will be planned and incorporated in the Construction NOW * $20 million of the $40 mill will be for “Phase Two” as Ballard begins the construction of Phase One … Student section, improving the Scoreboard and potentially Club seats all during the initial Phase I construction. That's if I understand what is being implied.

http://www.dailypress.com/sports/dp-spt-...y.html]ODU Capital Campaign[/url]
from the article....."Additions could include improving the scoreboard and/or south end-zone seating. The more revenue an upgrade might generate — think club seats — the better chance it has of making the cut"

Current Athletic reported numbers.....June 30, 2016 -July 31, 2017
* Scholarship Endowments Athletics .... $1,172,384

* Premium Seating Contributions Athletic Donations ….. $1,944,394

* Athletic Capital Improvements Athletics Only … $854,843

* Operations Annual Fund Athletic Only... $5,024,054

* Unrestricted Donations Athletics Only ….. $3,232,750

* TOTAL DONATIONS RAISED Ending July 31, 2017 …. $12,228,425

The first Fundraising Initiative Steering Committee meeting was held on November 28. Due to the initiative’s success in raising $78 million since it began in * July 2016, the goal was increased from $200 to $250 million. Bruce Bradley and Dick Barry are leading this effort and Donna Scassera is a member of the committee, which includes community leaders and ODU graduates.

During ODU President, John Broderick's 10 year tenure at Old Dominion the University has received more than $800 million in new public and private resources. *The University is pursuing a $250 million fundraising initiative to increase resources for scholarships, faculty research and academic centers, among other areas. Included in the $250 million initiative is the "August 2017 Initiative for Athletics" where Broderick upped the drive to aid the Athletic Department…. I'm certain the new fundraising drive has played a part in the record setting Donations for the Athletic Department (ODAF). The University has currently raised as of July 31 - $17,500,000 for the 40 million Fundraising Initiative "Athletics" . However this is a broader University wide fundraiser and those donations can be earmarked as the donor would dictate.

"In August of 2017 ODU President, John Broderick, announced a fundraising initiative for Old Dominion University. As a part of the universities total $250 million initiative for the entire University is the new directive to aid in raise money for (ODAF) Old Dominion Athletic Foundation. The task is to raise $40,000,000 in support of ODU Athletics and our student-athletes. As we look to move our program forward it is our mission for ODU Athletics to be recognized nationally for excellence in intercollegiate athletics. We are confident that this athletics initiative will give ODU Athletics the resources to rise to national prominence".
