Exclamation Alabama State Wants In On SBC Expansion Now? WTF...
http://madvertiserblogs.com/hornetchat/2...-football/

Quote:At the same time, he has to be careful what his staff promises to young recruits. The Hornets haven’t announced just yet that they’re making the move from Football Championship Subdivision (Division I-AA) to Football Bowl Subdivision (Division I-A) so he needs to be careful not to mislead anyone, even if the writing is on the wall.

If the Hornets were trying to move up they would have to have an invitation from an FBS Conference. As it stands, their only hope is us, and I don't see the Belt tossing them a rope to pull 'em up from the depths of FCS mediocrity.

Why do these FCS folks continue to talk like simply deciding to ascend upward is all it takes? They have to know the rules. 03-lmfao

I can't blame them for wanting to do what Troy has done, but the simple fact is they are not Troy.

If the FCS moratorium kicks in (which it appears it will) and these schools had plans to move up in 5-7 years then they need to do it now to get in.

It's that nice, new stadium of theirs.
Correct if I'm wrong, but didn't they win a suit against that state because they had been shorted funds for years? They we're given a big settlement but it was restricted to building projects so they are constructing a state-of-art football facility with the money.

If they were located in mississippi then I think they would be a great addition to get that state, but as it sits I think it would be a terrible idea to get 3 schools from the same state.

Oh yeah, they are building a beautiful new football stadium, you can see it from the interstate. Personally I think it's foolish to do so because Crampton Bowl, which is like a mile away from their campus and has been their home forever, has been renovated to the point it's nice enough for a bowl game (and will be the new home for the NCAA College Football All-Star Game). They should have put that money their spending on their new football facility in to academic building projects.

Still, a shiny new stadium does not mean you belong with the big boys. Alabama State has a well-known history of NCAA sanctions and other problems that make them very unattractive to pretty much anyone. To add to that, they haven't been a powerhouse at the FCS level like App State or Georgia Southern.

Alabama State is in the same boat as Jax State. Both want to move up for the exposure and money, but neither offer an attractive enough package that an FBS Conference would want in a potential new member.

I like the Hornets, I pull for them every year in the Turkey Day Classic...which I always watch. They are kind of like a "home team" since they are in my backyard. They just don't belong in the Sun Belt, fact. I'd like Troy to schedule them more often, they brought a good crowd down last time we played 'em. We beat the brakes off of them too, so that was fun to watch.

Do we really think the NCAA would block a push by a consolidated MEAC and SWAC to move up to FBS football as one conference? I think not, and that would make this entire thing interesting.

So are you saying you think that two HBCU FCS Conferences could move their entire membership up all at once and establish two new FBS leagues without any major obstacles?

If that is what you're saying I am going to have to dissagree sir.

There are currently rules against and I don't think you can find eight programs between the two conferences willing to make the financial commitment anyhow.

Shouldn't read too much into one HC's off the cuff remarks.

This isn't really anything new brother. Last year we had some Bama State fan on here for atleast a month going on and on about how they were just gonna move right up any day. Alabama State has been talking about it for years, this was just the newest and most brash mentioning of the effort I had seen in a long time.

I like the way you think, although I'm sure the NCAA could find a way, considering they managed to push out the Ivys.

Now...some HBCU muscle behind the "great jump" of the other eastern near-FBSers...that might be a different story.

If there were a possibility the HBCUs that would have to be included in the new conference would be:

Florida A&M
Southern University
Jackson State
North Carolina A&T
North Carolina Central
South Carolina State
Howard
Hampton

Texas Southern, Alabama A&M and Alabama State would probably be included but they are all under 7,000 students. Plus the graduation rates are not very good.

Its a hypothetical. But, in essence, yes...except that instead of two new conferences it will be one big conference.

Also Grambling...a little financial issues, but I guarantee they would raise the money so as to not be left behind by Southern University.

This is just ridic! Why dont we just go ahead and let Jax State and Alabama State in and rename the SBC to the ABC (Alabama Belt Conference)

UNA has also expressed interest in D1 football from what I read in an article somewhere.

IN NO WAY WILL JAX STATE OR ALABAMA STATE COME INTO THE SBC!!!!

If this were to happen this would set TROY back 10 years. We might as well move back to FCS just with nicer facilities....NO NO NO NO!!!!!

If that is the case, you have to add Prairie View to get to 12.

The conference would have a huge following.
