I'd like to see Texas Sts basketball numbers if we didn't always suck and play sub D1 schools at home. Or D1 schools over the Christmas break.

RE: UTA Packing Bags For The Sun Belt
For DFW marketing purposes, where exactly is Denton anyway and how long would it take to get there on a weeknight from downtown Dallas? My understanding is that UTA is in a better location, is about the same size, and I would think it would get as much coverage as North Texas did as a Sun Belt member. I disagree with this add, but except for football at UNT, I think this does a nice job of "covering" the market loss of UNT and providing a travel partner for Tx State.

The fact UNT is replaceable isn't a reflection on UNT necessarily.

Yup. If. People like winners and playing bigger teams. We've ha SMU and UNT and Long Island come recently and seen the numbers get a boost. Now for a new coach.

UTA did draw more in basketball than your broad based appealing Texas State. 2,131 to 2,030. So maybe the broad based appeal isn't as much as you think. At this point UTA's basketball is solid and Texas States is horrible.

That's enlightening coming from a UNT fan. Tell us about your storied basketball program, yeah?

Dallas to Denton is 39 miles. Denton to DFW International Airport is 23 miles.

I see a lot of stuff about locations in the DFW metroplex and it is clear some are just speculating and some that even live there don't seem to get out very much. Arlington is between Fort Worth and Dallas but UTA is not all that easy to get to. So as far as better location, it depends based on what and where you are traveling from. If you are at DFW airport, travel to UTA would probably be a few minutes closer than NT. Likewise from downtown Fort Worth or Dallas, UTA would be depending on traffic be about 15 to 20 minutes quicker. The most growth and affluent neighborhoods are North toward Denton. I live about 8 miles from UTA because I like the location between the two major city down towns.

UTA will be a good member of the Belt, but they are going to have to grow into it. The teams they have are all competitive but support is poor. Watch out in basketball, despite playing in the worst arena perhaps in the nation, they have always been very competitive. With the new arena and conference they could do big things.

UTA is a good school and will be very competitive their first day in the Belt in most sports.

UNT is primarily a residential school. This isn't 1993. 05-nono

Oh, and our basketball program is something you can only pray for. When you have 5 star players eagerly wanting to come back for another year, let me know. COGS

I live about 10 miles from uta..can get to the airport in about 15 mins. unless there is a wreck on the freeway takes about 45 mins. to get to UNtexas..it is on I-35...there is no freeway to uta as it is landlocked in the middle of town. the city is redoing the server streets in around the new arena to make for easier access to and from I-30 4 or 5 miles to the north..I-20 is only about 4 miles south... large numbers of students are now living on or near the campus and it is not the commuter school it was when I went there..B.S. Architecture '72. new buildings seem to be going up everywhere and there is now quite a buzz going on. there seem to always be a lot of people there for events and activities...I take my grandkids to the planetarium there every now and then...besides attending basketball and baseball games. they have the top baseball teams in and beat them more often than not...

Here in Houston, Texas State registers on the map. UNT, not so much. People MOVE to Texas State to go to school. They have to, there's nothing else there. What percentage of UNT's students are from Harris, Bexar, or Travis counties?

Why don't you research it and get back to us. Should anyone really care how many of the well over 30,000 students come from there ?

Sorry. I just laughed in real life.

I'm from Houston. I moved from Houston to Denton. As did my roommate. And my freshman RA. And I see UNT shirts a lot. And stickers. Way more than Texas State. I know at least 10 people from Houston that were friends who went to UNT. Please, son. I grew up in Houston. Stop stirring the pot. Your irrational hate for UNT is amusing. Texas State is purely a party school with subpar academics. Hell, our nutty furniture guy Mattress Mac who purely represents Houston as it is is from UNT.

Wait until the UH vs. UNT game when a good 1/4 are Mean Green fans.

Not a knock, but a compliment suggesting that the addition of UTA would raise the bar for Sun Belt basketball. At least that's how I read it.

Hahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahaha right back at you.

Don't act like UNT is all over Houston. Living here I see Texas St stuff way more often then UNT. But I'm sure that's because it pops out at me. I haven't met a UNT grad here yet in the five years I've been here. I have met a handful of Texas St grads. Obviously that doesn't mean anything but I think it shows something about it being easier to recognize or remember meeting people from your school.

You must be from a different part of Houston. I rarely see any UNT stuff driving in from the burbs, through downtown and the med center. I am actually surprised by how many Texas State stickers I see. Seem to have grown exponentially in the past five years or so. They are all over the place now (and being from Houston, you'll appreciate how much time is spent sitting in traffic with nothing to do but read bumper stickers). Just calling it like I see it. I disagree with your negative Texas State comments, but I have nothing against UNT. I know a couple people who studied music there. Best of luck in C-USA.
