Roll call on Smith-Amash amendment to NDAA
The Smith-Amash amendment explicitly bans indefinite detention and military commissions from the US and repeals section 1022 from the 2012 NDAA. The amendment also guarantees that persons arrested on U.S. soil under the Afghanistan AUMF or the NDAA will be charged for their alleged wrongdoing and will receive a fair trial.

The other Republicans are not conservatives. They have no problem with a heavy handed government.

I would not give that guarantee to non-US citizens. I suspect that almost all such people arrested "on U.S. soil" can be safely charged and brought to trial. But I can also envision a few extreme scenarios where it would be unwise to do so. So I support the effort to withhold that guarantee from being placed in law.

I don't think that's the case. Rather, all the other Republicans see some possible justification for indefinite detention in some instances.

Bolded names are people who are in the Republican Liberty Caucus or tend to vote with it.

Why not list the dems who voted for it and against it? Civil liberties isn't a party-specific interest, and right now, neither one is doing enough to stand up for them so I would like knowing everyone who thought this was a good or a bad idea.

Just a thought.

RE: Roll call on Smith-Amash amendment to NDAA
My area has been pulled into the 12th district so now, Barrow's old 12th will hopefully become conservative and I'm supporting someone I've known for years and know to be a man of his word.

The 10th will remain with Broun and remain conservative.
