If nothing else ever comes from this story, Ellis will have been kicked off the team because a guy said he hit him. I'm sure one of us can bait a Xavier player into a fight if we try hard enough. If you go and bait Desmond Wells into a fight, no charges are filed, and he says to Mack "Yeah, I hit him", do you think Xavier would throw him off the team? I'm not sure any team would. I think it's an overreaction to appease the ghost of the past, and also possibly a viable excuse to open up a scholarship.

I think when you add up his involvement in the Xavier incident, his many minor attitude problems during his time here, and then if he admited he punched the guy, then yes that is enough to kick him off the team. If you don't his pattern of behavior puts you at a huge risk of a future more serious incident.

i look at it that we're lucky no charges were filed and this didn't go to a judge. with how it's unfolding now, it'll all blow over and no one will remember this guy 3 years from now.

imagine if it went round and round the legal system and it dragged out for over a year?

If you admitted to your coach that you violated the standards of conduct by punching someone in the face then it really doesn't matter if charges are filed are not. In Ellis' case I'm sure that meant breaking a zero tolerance rule that was put in place after the brawl.

With Ellis gone and no charges being filed, I'm hoping we can finally put this incident behind us.

Is Play an over 21 club? Is Ellis 21 or Older?

From the angles I saw, I thought Ellis caught a bad rap in the Shootout brawl. Wells attacked the bench, Ellis came back out swinging. Don't blame him for defending himself. He could have been defending himself again in this situation. Only one side of the account came out, the bar acted like it wasn't a big deal, the police decided to not press charges... was it as big a deal as the one side of the story made it sound (you know, the guy with the camera crew), or was it just a fight? People fight. Would Ellis still have been thrown off the team if all this happened without Channel 19 reporting it?

From the standpoint of Ellis admitting involvment to Cronin... Should he have just lied to him? I guess he should have just said, "I wasn't even there" if it's now a dead issue with no charges pending.

In my comments before though, I just meant he hadn't been legally proven to have done anything wrong. His admitting involvment is enough to get him thrown off the team by the coach.

Look at the bright side... at least is wasn't Wright or Kilpatrick.

Ellis was my guess, and I think everyone's guess all along.

No excuse for him doing this, especially after being warned after the Shootout brawl.

On the flip side, not sure how much anger I'd have inside me after seeing my mother shot in the face and killed when I was age 10. My prayer for this kid is that this is a wake up call, and he goes on to change his life and be a quality person. I wish him the best.

Not the way I wanted it to happen, but now the scholarship speculation begins. Still waiting to hear on Obekpa, and there are still several transfers available. Could be interesting.

Pretty big thing to take away from a young man. It's not like he got suspended a game. He got thrown off the team. He lost his ability to play on national television in a major conference. I hope he deserved it.

He can always transfer to X. He could play no matter what and "earn" a master's degree in a couple of months.

Seems a little harsh to me, but I obviously only have the barest of details. Mick presumably has nearly all of them and I trust his judgment for the program. I'm fine with it and glad that Mick will be helping find a new school - hopefully things eventually work out for Ellis.

If it were a star player, I think the outcome would have been different. Since he wasn't a contributor, it gets you a potential problem off the team and opens a scholarship. Good deal.
