RE: Big West will entertain membership application from Boise State
Fresno makes the most sense for Big West and SDSU/Boise. BE should go to 14 now:

West: SDSU, Boise, Fresno, Houston, SMU, Memphis, Navy
East: UCONN, RU, UL, Cincy, USF, UCF. Temple

In 2014, go to 16 if AF and BYU play ball.

West: SDSU, Boise, Fresno, Houston, SMU, Memphis, AF, BYU
East: UCONN, RU, UL, Cincy, USF, UCF. Temple, Navy

This would be a nice geographically compacted 16 teams league. The only issue is East and West teams might not play each other for a few years. There is always that yearly championship game.

Since there would have to be one major outlier in the west I'd switch Navy with Memphis (to put the academies together) and I think you've got a winner there.

Agreed, keep the Academies together and keep Memphis/Cindy/Louise together.

03-lmfao Yeah, I got that. You prefer Fresno. I understand. I don't have a preference, just want to see us invite somebody, get a good contract, and get on with all this. I do think Navy would want AF, though, just as SDSU and Boise would want Fresno.

I prefer Fresno. That is in one stack of papers. In the other stack of papers is the fact that Air Force only has one spot to put their teams - the wac and that only remains if boise and sdsu go there and AFA goes there in '13 or 14 - otherwise, Air Force has nowhere to go, none, nil, zilch
Maybe, but isn't that what a lot of folks said about Boise, too? Never say never in realignment.

Navy in the west instead of Louisville or Cinci? That makes no sense.

The era of the BE having all their "core" teams in one neat little bundle is over. Gotta do what's best for the conference.

I would argue that it's best for the conference to keep their core as happy as possible until we can get a year or two in of dominating other conferences in football to settle everything else down. Plus the Navy is coming off of Indy status, they're used to/ and have no problem with playing anywhere.

This would be brilliant.

With all the rumors of realignment and if we lose one eastern school - drop Memphis into their slot. If we lose two eastern schools - drop Memphis over there and pick up UMass.

Boise and SDSU each have it in their contracts with the BE that the BE will consider in good faith any recommendations that SDSU and/or Boise have for adding teams west of the Mississippi River. If they both recommend Fresno and the BE says no, I think that looks bad for the BE, especially if this "add Fresno and get Boise into the Big West" deal helps Boise. It's not like they're recommending Chico St. Fresno is actually a decent team.

I agree about Fresno. But that decision can't be made in a vacuum, especially with BYU still hanging around to see what November TV negotiations bring, and AF still hanging around, period, lol.

Fresno is a good addition. They have a rabid fanbase that could easily be much more involved with a BE invitation. Fresno is already a rival to both Boise and SDSU. On top of that, BE can get 2 teams into CA which is not a bad thing. Frankly, I think the upside for Fresno is much higher than AF. If BYU is willing to play ball, we can bring them in as 15th and AF as 16th.

Go to Halloween at Chico, and I think you'll want to add them

BE can add Fresno now. With the new TV partner, BE can put in clauses that state if BE expands to 16, there will be additional money etc. so there is no need to renegotiate etc.

Sure Boise State's other athletics programs aren't of the same caliber of the football program, but their name should be good for that conference. If I were them, I'd jump on it.

Haha, I love it. Seriously, that would work for me. Sounds fun.

But I just pictured the new BE commish standing at a podium announcing Fresno, and a reporter asks, "So, Mr. Commish, what tipped the scales for Fresno?"

Reply: "Simple. I went to Halloween at Chico." 03-lmfao

For that matter, Hawaii would make a good add, too. Halloween in Waikiki is awesome.

Oh I know Chico can party. If parties were what brought schools into a conference Chico and Slippery Rock would be every conference's first picks.

They're not as horrible as some people like to make them out to be either. Not saying that you are, but people tend to assume that since they've heard so much about football and nothing about the other sports, that this must be the case. 01-wingedeagle

It at least would be one of the most memorable pressers:

New Commish has an Up in Smoke size spliff in his mouth...I'd like to announce my deputy commissioners, the naughty nurse, the slutty cowgirl, the passed out dude dressed like Duff Man from the Simpsons. (heard through gurgling vomit) Oh Yeah!

Big East Expansion will include Chico State and Humboldt State as non-sports members

-Brett McMurphy, mustached PooBah of expansion, Cbs, why Humboldt? and are hoodies and cargos the new Big East dressing code?

Cuz they got that sticky-icky-icky, ooo-eee

Question: has anyone heard anything about nmsu out idaho and their conference plans?

Let's connect the dots. Mwc is currently at 10. Nmsu and idaho are perfect geographic fits, if terrible programs. Why aren't they in the mountain west yet? Do they want to stay at ten? Expand to twelve for a ccg? Either way, they are waiting, and the only reason I can think of is that they are expecting to back fill with the loss of afa or fresno or both. I.e. they need to know who to invite over the other, or even both, and they have no reason to hurry, if they already know what's going on
