Don't you have to sit out a year when you transfer from FBS school to FBS school?

Yes unless you get a waiver like this kid is trying to get.

"Pegram plans to file a hardship waiver with the NCAA based on the health of his mother, who has a heart condition."

Pegram is on record as saying he enjoyed his time at Purdue but family issues arising in Texas forced him to head home and play football elsewhere. I respect that decision because football won’t always be around but your family is your family. I wish him nothing but the best and I’m sad to see him go as he had lots of potential showcased by his two touchdown performance in the bowl game

"Pegram's cousins Brandon Kennedy and Erric Pegram are both significant players in program history.

Pegram led UNT in rushing twice, and went on to play seven seasons in the NFL. Brandon Kennedy was the Sun Belt Player of the Year in 2002 and 2003, during one of the golden eras in the history of the program -- UNT's four-year run as Sun Belt champions."
