According to McCarney's column UTSA was initially offered the MWC, but stated its preference for CUSA. I wonder what factors went into that decision. They seem like fairly comparable leagues. Why one over the other?

Geography probably more than anything. I think this conference will really help us grow to the next level to be ready for a BCS conference when the time comes.

I guess the in state rivalries are a big factor. Rice, UTEP, and UNT will make for good rivalry games. Hopefully, we find a way to keep Texas State as an OOC rivalry game as well.

Geography...plus we can start rivalries with UTEP, UNT, and Rice.

Love the geography of Con USA. Makes for great travel.

Some teams in the MWC look good but overall Con USA is where it's at.

Absolutely the geography is much better over MWC and both leagues are very similar in terms of quality. And right now with start up costs being what they are, we will likely save a ton of $$ in travel costs by keeping a tight footprint.

Factual would be most likely CUSA has better TV and Bowl $$$.


I'm sure having Texas teams for you to play helped.

Better TV and Bowl $$$ is what we will like to hear PirateTreasure. We've got a lot of construction under way and a lot more coming. I think the ECU fanbase will be pleasantly surprised whichever year it is that they make it down to San Antonio for our first contest.

Can't wait for the new complex and arena. Plus the on campus additions with the new dorms and roundabout Whitley. GO RUNNERSSSSSSS!

With the MWC its not just the long distance travel its also the high altitude you run into at some of those schools. It can really take it out of you as an athlete.
