Our options were the likes of Fresno State, Washington State, Oregon State, Western Michigan, maybe Memphis, and a few other schools, perhaps.

Fresno State wanted a 1-1 deal, which obviously wouldn't happen.

But I like the choice b/c the Huskies will give Michigan a good game like 02 Utah and 04 SDSU, even if it is too close for most fans' liking.

Most importantly it keeps Michigan from scheduling a 1AA opponent (never happened since the distinction was made in the 70s nor has Michigan scheduled an equivalent of one since the 20s - a major reason why we have the best SOS all-time).

We're happy to have you on our schedule as well! Should be a great challenge for our team. If NIU had our way, we would have at least one Big 10 team on our OOC schedule every year. Come visit our forum http://www.ncaabbs.com/forums/mac/invision...php?act=SF&f=13

Do you know how many seats the opposing team is typically alloted? Also, what is the ticket cost and can they be purchased from NIU or will we have to get them through Michigan?

PS: What are you referring to by "too close for most fans' likings"? The geographic distance or the score of the game?

I meant the scores of those games.

I posted on the NIU board when it was first announced about this game..... NIU fans seem fired up about it.

I think it will be fairly competitive.

all NIU can do is run the football and they don't have a moble quarterback like Texas or OSU. I can see if Michigan is able to stop the run, they'll probably run away with this one.

Northern Illinois is a formidable team, but as I tried to explain to Huskie fans about a month ago, they don't have a the depth to stay with Michigan into the 4th quarter.

I think it will fairly close through half time, but then Michigan will open up...... It will be as close as Lloyd Carr wants it to be, but I think the box score will look something like this:

Qtr 1 2 3 4 FINAL
MICH 10 10 14 7 41
NIU 7 7 3 7 24

But NIU could be tougher than expected if Michigan tries to hide too much in preparation for Notre Dame the following weekend.....

03 Maryland played a very week schedule...... The ACC wasn't that good, with FSU not being dominant, Clemson was only good at the end of the year, GT was so-so, and Virginia and NCSU were disapointments as usual.

03 Alabama went 4-9 and also lost to Hawaii...... They beat nobody good that year.

03 Iowa State went 2-10...... Largely b/c of injuries and a very tough schedule with Texas and Oklahoma included, albeit.

I know the Huskies have beaten Wake Forest and taken Illinois and Wisconsin to the limit, too, recently.

I know you guys have a good team (not quite as good as the 03 one but good), but seriously.....

....Your program hasn't faced a team like Michigan ever since it started to be formidable under Novak..... Your offense has 2 good RBs, but an unproven passing game...... Michigan will shut down the run and attack the QB. The Michigan DLine will be one of the best in the country with two future 1st rounders (Gabe Watson, LaMarr Woodley) on it....... If the Huskies passing game is decent then you might put up some points, but if the running game is all that there is, then it's not going to do too well........ When Michigan's offense is on the field, the OLine will just dominate and Mike Hart will get a lot of carries to control the clock..... If forced to, Henne will do his job and deliver the ball to Steve Breaston and Jason Avant, but I think the running game will really control the game.

I have a lot of respect for NIU, but it's unrealistic to think that they can stay within 10 points of Michigan.

Before you counter with the 04 SDSU and 02 Utah games, let me point out the difference....... Henne and Hart were not supposed to be the QB and RB last year, but now that they realize that they are and they know the offense, they have taken charge........... As for the 02 Utah team, that was the year before Meyer came to Salt Lake City, but it had many of the same players that went 22-2 the past 2 years. In fact, that Utah team was ranked in the preseason top25 after coming off a win against SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA in the 01 Las Vegas Bowl.

Maybe the Huskies will surprise me, and I wish them well the rest of the year to help Michigan's SOS, but I don't see it.

Alabama was off to a great start and lost to a top Oklahoma team by 3 at Oklahoma. They were decimated by injuries during and after the NIU game - somthing that we may do to you guys as well!

I like your excuses for the SDSU and Utah games - isn't that always the case with the top programs.

Our #1 excuse - you guys won't play on the road adn have the luxury of playing almost all you OOC games at home.

Actually it was the 2002 Alabama team that went 10-3 (but was banned from a bowl game) that took the Sooners to the edge in Norman......... the 2003 Tide team didn't play so well in Tuscaloosa against OU.

Never-the-less, it should be competitive in the first half, but considering how strong Michigan's OL and DL are, I just don't see how the Huskie linemen will be able to keep from getting tired in the 2nd half.

Last year, NIU lost to Iowa State and Maryland - unlike in 03, too....... Only Bowling Green has been able to consistently play well against BCS teams, out of the MAC, considering they've beaten Purdue, Northwestern, Kansas, Missouri (2), and giving Ohio State and Oklahoma tough games.

Only 64 more days....... I will be back here after the game no matter the result.

The 2003 Crimson Tide gave Oklahoma all they could handle at Tuscaloosa. It was one of the more physical games I saw all year and Oklahoma escaped by 1 touchdown. The only thing that kept Alabama from winning that game was some inconsistent play from Brodie Croyle. A sharper QB that night would have beaten OU, Alabama played that well.

What do we have left - 46 days? I look forward to our game and I don't look for our D-Line to be worn out if they are platooned throughout the day and it is not 100 degrees. As for NIU stopping the running game of the Wolverines........

armour, I am a HS Sr-to-be...... I think I have a good shot at Michigan with a 3.65 (all level 1 classes) a 1380 SAT, and a good amount o f extracurriculars....... Both my parents, my older sister, and other relatives are all alumni...... Unfortunately, I live in PA (OOS) and we all know Michigan's infamous affirmative action policy (I'm white), but I hope that those 2 factors won't be too much of a negative impact.

If you're just testing to see if I'm a bandwagoner, then I tell you that I'm not..... The only FB game I've been to was last year's Minnesota game (what a thrill it was to see Henne throw for all 80 yards of a game-winning drive capped off with a TD pass on the side of the stadium I was at), but I was at the 2004 NITCG where Michigan defeated Rutgers, despite the fact that the crowd was %90 Scarlet Knights fans, which is understandable considering RU's proximity to MSG. Seeing those fans walk out with the color of their faces matching their clothing was kind of funny...... This year I'll be at the Michigan - Notre Dame and Wisconsin games....... If I get into Michigan I'll try out for their marching band, and I do know the words to "The Victors" (not just "hail") and I even know how to play it in the right key.

Anyways, for those of you coming to Ann Arbor, I hope you have a good time, even if the game itself doesn't turn out as good as you want it to....... I realize that it could end up really close to the end like 02 Utah and 04 SDSU were able to do, but bear in mind that it could just as well be a blowout like 04 Miami OH and 02 Houston, which were both comparable teams to NIU.

I think if NIU is going to make it close, good QB play is essential..... if he is a running threat as well as a decent passer like Vince Young, Troy Smith, and Drew Stanton than all the better...... If your WRs are any good then they'll be able to make a few plays against Michigan's suspect 2ndary...... Defensively, LB play will be critical b/c Mike Hart and 2 other good RBs will get a lot of carries to try to wear out the DLine, but also the LBs will have to be good in pass coverage and blitzing or Henne will not have too much difficulty in delivering the ball to Steve Breaston and Jason Avant...... Neither is Braylon Edwards, of course, but if you are familiar with either, then you know that Breaston is similar to Ted Ginn in his playmaking ability and agility and Avant is a very good possession receiver....... both had injuries last year and were off and on, but they're both healthy now..... I do think Wolfe and Harris will both get a decent bit of production, though, as long as the passing game is effective enough to keep Michigan from stacking the box.

Enough rambling..... 46 more days.....
