WVU move to Big 12 good for Cincinnati
WVU move to the Big 12 has been good for Cincinnati. We are no longer competing with WVU for many of our recruits. WVU roster has traditionally been riddled with Ohio players. Most Ohioans on the WVU roster are from eastern Ohio but the school has always recruited well in Ohio period. However, to date in 2012, WVU only has one player from Ohio of it's nine committments. Darrien Howard, 6-2, 250lbs 5.0 speed. He is a four star linebacker from Dayton CJ. I'm not sure about the 4 star rating. Dayton CJ does not produce many division one football players, does not have strong football competition in it's league or schedule and is mainly noted for basketball (women's). My guess is he'll be converted to a defensive end soon. My guess is that WVU has found other places to recruit and secondly, many Ohio players don't want to play so far west that their families cannot visit and watch. For 2012, WVU has 15 players on it's 99 man roster from Ohio. I would like to revisit that number in 5 years to see how this move has impacted recruiting in Ohio. Obviously, WVU has not stopped recruiting in Ohio. It appears looking at their numbers for each position for recruiting in this season at rivals.com ,WVU has been recruiting in Ohio much like other years. However, their success has been limited with only one in nine committments. So presence is one thing, actual success is another. My guess is also WVU may not be as attractive as it once was when playing in the Big East. Some unintended affects of leaving for the Big 12. Can anyone else state what they think are unintended consequences of WVU leaving the Big East for the Big 12? Negative consequences of course. How will it effect their athletic program?
