RE: Pickup truck recommendations
F-150 may be bigger than what you want by your description but there are probably quite a few used options out there for sale.
The Dodge Dakota is a nice midsize but hard to find used and I don't think they make them anymore after last year.
A 2-4 year old Nissan Frontier will probably not be comfortable if you sit tall in the seat without a sun roof with the shade pulled open.
Never drove a Toyota Tacoma but people seem to like them.
I have looked at the Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon and just don't care for them.
I have a Honda Ridgeline now and it my favorite truck for city/country driving that I have ever had. Plenty of interior room and the trunk in the bed/two direction tailgate is fantastic. Rides like a sedan but gets through the mud fine. Don't drive over logs or stuff because they don't come with skidplates. It is not a heavy duty farm/ranch truck. You can find a few used around the Honda lots. Memphis Carmax shows a base model with low mileage.

He really liked it. F150 sounds like a good truck. I like those pics M/ND. That's kinda what I had in mind. I could deal with the half door, because I wouldn't really be putting humans in the back seat. I'd just prefer to have one.
You guys have been really helpful, and I appreciate it.
Tacoma is really mid size, Tundra is a big truck. I am 6'2" and something over 200 and I have more than enough leg and head room
Well, I'm 6'3" and something over 200, so you know what I mean. I guess the point is I'm not looking for some bad ass truck, but I do want something nice and most importantly something comfortable. I drove a 2-seat sports car for a very long time and those days are over, lol.
Didn't notice the Montana location when I mentioned looking in Tx. Like I said earlier, good clean used trucks are kinda hard to find. Most are used as a truck and thus they get some pretty good wear and tear. If you are patient, there are some good choices out there, but you better be ready to jump on one when you find it. They sell fast and if you snooze, you loose. I like the SUV's more because they are easy to find. Tahoe, 4-Runner, Pathfinder. Those are popular with the ladies and are not abused like a truck.
Hadn't really thought about that, actually. Had a Jeep Grand Cherokee, before I bought the toy and loved it. I'm patient. Have been thinking about it off and on, but I'm ready to make a move if the right something shows up. I'm not in Montana anymore, lol.
Heck, you are right next to Tx then. Check Craig's list and autotrader.com. They are there, just have to find a good one.

Don't necessarily need a huge truck, but don't want a tiny one either. Crew cab would be nice, but not a deal breaker. 4X4 not necessary. Looking for something 2 or 3 years old. What would you guys recommend?
Ask PrincetonTiger, oh, never mind.

LOL. Your truck was one of the first I thought about. I can't afford it, and I doubt you'd sell it.

Never had a major problem (knock on wood), and the minor issues I've had have all been DIY fixes (hoses, brakes, etc) on the cheap, parts are everywhere.
I use older trucks for work. Over the years I have gone through quite a few. F-150s always, always more than earn their money. Cant say the same for Chevy. I have always ended up with major issues (transmissions/engines) with Chevy. The F-150s dont stop. I get sick of them. When they get to the point where the minor problems become constant nagging problems, I upgrade.
If you are buying a used F-150 one big concern are water leaks. Water leaks around the windshield will lead to a problem with your GEM due to it being right in the path of the water leak. 500 dollar repair. If you could find a way to check it out on a rainy day you might save yourself a headache later. Common problems will be power windows not working, dome light not working, and windshield wipers not working (ironic they dont work on rainy days).
If the windshield has been replaced at some point it will most likely have been fixed.

Engine problems with a GM? That is very odd. Now they do have a weak link with the trannys, but ANY GM motor that is properly maintained will outlast the the useful life of the vehicle. 250k is not out of the norm with a GM engine. Other than the old intake gasket problem that has been corrected, the GM engine is the best motor out there. The tranny is a different story. They can be troublesome if not maintained and will wind up costing some big money in the event that it bites the dust.

So much for not wanting a huge truck.
Unless you go back to the pre-2007 model years.
Nice truck, though. If you go that route, I would also check out the Nissan Titan but, for a full size truck, a low mileage Ford F-150 would be my choice.

Just to confuse you some more, you could always go with the Sport-Trac. Had one for several years, best of both worlds.
Ever thought about an El Camino?

If you want reliable, then Chevrolet is the way to go. I love my '07 Crew Cab. I'm a big dude too. This is one comfy ride.

Chevy or Gmc is my choice.
Nissans are a piece of sh!t if you drive it like a truck.

They are good trucks but the up front cost is just to high for what it is when you can get a Chevy or Ford much cheaper. If you are wanting to sell the truck in a few years the resale value is valid but if you plan to drive it until the wheels fall off then go for a Chevy or Ford.

I drive a sport trac and have for 4 years love it. Had the F-150 and love it as well.
The sport Trac is a better truck for driving mostly around town. Parking spaces and tight places are a little bit easier than the F-150.
Gas milage will not break the bank. Service is available as well as parts. I have not had any troble out of my ST.
If you need to haul something the bed is just big enough. My golf clubs fit very well in the back. Buy one with a covered bed that locks.
