"But we will always have to be disciplined to make sure that whatever we do relative to expansion - and certainly every other business decision we make - that there's a specific reason and a specific point of opportunity for us with each move.

"I don't think simply the attainment of a number makes any sense for us. We have to add institutions, if we ever do, that are going to specifically fortify and make the sum of the parts exceed the whole.''

Most people would want the whole to exceed the sum of the parts. I guess he wants the B12 to have less value than the members by themselves.

So is this a hint that he wants programs that aren't worth much?

Come on now 4x4 are you sniping? I know where you stand and I completely understand but it really seems like you are purposefully being obtuse when the answer to your "question" is the sentence just before the one you boldened. You know that question of yours makes no sense, I really do not believe that you truly believe that.

The point of what he is saying is that he wants programs that simply fit well. He just left Stanford, they probably want him talking over all of our heads, or atleast trying to.
