Would like to see the context of the denial. As much as we like to say that ADs and presidents lie, they usually give very lawyerly answers that technically aren't lies. A statement of "We haven't spoken with the Big 12" is open-ended and doesn't preclude movement a move in the future, while a flat out statement of "We will not leave for the Big 12" is much different and can be taken as a true rejection.

The Clemson AD could give a profanity filled diatribe about how Clemson would never consider joining the Big XII and it wouldn't do a thing to stop the Internet rumors that they're as good as gone.

True. As closely as I follow realignment, I don't recall a single statement that the best lawyer could ever nail down in court. Everybody always leaves a door open. Or at least a window.

Our AD was quoted as saying on the Friday before we were announced to the Big East, that "Memphis' status has not changed." That was true. We had an invitation in hand, but our "status" had not yet changed, b/c it had not been publicly announced yet.
