They have to play somebody.

Examples.

NC State comes up to Syracuse. (Every year SU will host a team on a Friday)

Clemson comes up to Boston College. (Every year BC will host a team on a Friday)

Virginia and Virginia Tech play after Thanksgiving. (Will probably be a rivalry matchup)

That way a southern team doesn't host on a Friday night. High Schools have the day after Thanksgiving off, so there is no problem there.

The way I read it....BC vs Cuse will always be on Black Friday.

VT is generally committed to 2 Thursday night games a year, I hope that's good enough and we don't have to play on Fridays. Hopefully Steger made it clear to Swofford we don't want Friday night games in Virginia either when they agreed to this contract.

That's the way I read it too. Probably put in the time slot previously filled by the back yard brawl.

That isn't how I read it. I read it as three games.
1. Syracuse hosts one
2. BC hosts one
3. Friday after Thanksgiving

EDIT: Here is the quote " ESPN has the right to televise three Friday ACC football contests annually which will include a standing commitment from Boston College and Syracuse to each host one game as well as an afternoon or evening game on Thanksgiving Friday."

It is poorly worded so I can see how it can be read both ways.

Swofford said #ACC could have played more Friday night games. Didn't out of respect to southern HS football. BC, Cuse wanted to host Fri.

He obviously doesn't care, right Catdaddy. 03-razz

Every year SU and BC will play a Friday night game = 2 games
Every year a game will be played after Thanksgiving = 1 game (High Schools will have this day off.)

Right. I highly doubt that Syracuse is going to host BC on one Friday night then in a few weeks go to BC to play on a Friday night.

They have to play somebody.

Wasn't Wake/Cuse on Friday last year?

I asked ESPN's PR dept for an answer re: BC vs. SU on Black Friday

Mike's answer isn't quite what I'm looking for either, so I'll try the BC and SU staff to see if they can get a better answer.

Thanks, Matt. Appreciate the hard work you do on the TV front. Our ACC friends will be happy with the work you do and the info you pass along.

Do you think BC's attendance would get better with more Friday night games? Are there too many other activities going on on Saturdays in Boston? Would there be any less competition for entertainment on a Friday night?

FWIW, Boston area fans are used to going to Friday night sporting events. Most significantly, BC plays hockey games on Friday nights to strong attendance. Both the Red Sox and Celtics are also Friday night staples. I'm not sure Friday night versus Saturday afternoon would be that big of a difference as far as competing activities.
