IF the plan, if there even is one, is to leave after FSU then they would, for PR reasons, HAVE to have public statements of not wanting to move previously. That way they have something publicly to point at later on to show that Clemson has had no intentions of moving but find themselves with no choice.

Now that is not me saying do not pay attention to what the damned President of Clemson is saying. Perhaps the ACC is about to come out with a big announcement about a renegotiated deal and its a pretty good deal. Perhaps now the ACC is solid.

For me personally I do not care either way. I am just looking forward to seeing the landscape at the end of summer. So much as been going on in realignment that it just feels like the grand finale hasn't happened yet but who knows what that finale will be. It doesn't necessarily have to be ACC teams leaving.

He1nous, I find Bowlsby's selection to be intriguing. I think how this all plays out now hinges on one issue. Will the Big 12 add two teams (or more) or not?

If they go ahead and add two teams I think they have proven their stability and intentions about sticking together. Then additional adds, quality adds, will be much more likely to consider a move to a conference that could offer more money, but more importantly strength of schedule.

If on the other hand they decide to stay at 10 the selection of Bowlsby indicates an entirely other direction is intended by at least UT and probably OU. Having been an AD in both the Big 10 and PAC, and having worked closely with Scott and Delany, Bowlsby's knowledge of those two conferences would make him an excellent broker for the moves of enough teams to permit the disbanding of the conference. It takes 8 to pull it off.

So, if they move to 12 the pressure could indeed shift to the ACC, or we may be looking at 24 teams between the PAC & B1G and 48 teams between the SEC, ACC & Big 12. If the latter happens I could foresee an 8 team playoff in a couple of years that would include 5 conference champs and 3 at large. Just thinking out loud. JR

Another post by JR speculating that the Big 12 is going to have a dissolution vote right after signing a six year granting of rights and right as they are about to sign for 13. You really want our league broken apart don't you?

Hello Sammy11. My post is about the permutations of this situation. If the Big 12 doesn't expand that possibility still looms and is a bit more likely than your post yesterday indicates. Eight teams leaving is certainly not out of the realm of possibility. But in fairness to the post you are responding to now, I think the following would be appropriate. "I promise to read the post, the whole post, and nothing but the post, so help me Grant Teaff!"

If you look more closely I went on to state how two additions ends the prior aspect, indicates strength and permits you to acquire better targets. I went on to add that we might end up with 5 large conferences.

Furthermore, I don't care if the Big 12 grows, or goes away. Ditto for the ACC. All I'm hoping for is a relatively quick resolution of this garbage, intriguing as it is (it's like watching a train wreck in slow motion), and a resumption of football without further deleterious distractions. The longer this drags on the worse it's going to get for all of us and for the prestige, popularity, and profit of the sport.

I do want an upper tier of at least 72 schools, 80 might be better, simply because I don't want to see quality, historic, and schools with strongly developing programs excluded.

If you analyze any situation you have to chase all rabbits. Until the Big 12 expands one rabbit represents dissolution. Two more teams and that rabbit is as much a part of fiction as the one Alice saw. JR

It just hit the wires 18 minutes ago that the new ACC deal will be worth 17 million per team. Just thought you guys might like to know that. ESPN was doing the reporting.

17 was about as good as I thought they could do. It is right on the borderline of tempting for ACC schools. 7 million minus travel plus third tier is now the formula of temptation. We'll see!

Of course, there will be one other factor of interest to Big 12 fans. How much will the renegotiated contract of the SEC be worth? If it comes in at 30 million or higher then our ACC counterparts might indeed find 24 plus 3rd tier attractive in the Big 12. Remaining at a potential 13 million dollar deficit to their SEC rivals would be intolerable for some of them I would think. JR

Fair enough JR but while you are chasing all rabbits I find it as likely that the ACC invites BYU football only as the Big 12 losing eight in the next few years and dissolving.

Not much chance of either but with the right complicated set of dominoes plausible.

I agree. Until Greg Swaim tweets about it or Sybil_EER holds an elaborate conversation with himself about it, consider me a skeptic.

That is a bunch of self serving BS. I understand that WVU has to look out for its own interest, and have no problem with them doing so, but to say they weren't looking before the SU/Pitt departure is a lie.

+1. I can't speak for Syracuse but I do know that from Pitt's perspective, one of the things that scared the hell out of us was WVU's open flirting with the SEC and ACC while we were sitting on our arse. That is why we started flirting with the B12 before ultimately landing our top choice, the ACC.

Doc, I know for a fact that Pitt has been openly flirting with the B1G, to rekindle their PSU rivalry, since the dawn of BEast football...

I'd put it in the same league with FSU/Clemson/Miami to the Big 12 followed by Notre Dame/UGA/Florida to the ACC to replace the lost teams followed by everyone leaving the SEC but the Alabama and MS schools. TN/Vandy to Big 10, UK,S. Carolina to ACC, Mizzou/LSU/Ark to the Big 12 and A&M to the Pac 12 along with Houston or San Diego St. The SEC would have to rebuild with the Big East and CUSA schools. So if it happens-you heard it here 1st!

Not openly. Privately perhaps but certainly not openly.

Our AD wasn't out there all summer long bragging in the local media about how attractive we would be to other leagues and our AD wasn't talking about how attractive membership in another league would be.

We didn't have coaches going on television talking about how we would no longer be members of the Big East in another year or two.

Instead our coaches kept their mouths shut and our AD - who is an absolute goof in his own right - acted professionally and discreetly so that when we did have a chance we could act quickly and decisively. We didn't have our powerful politicians impugning powerful politicians from other states in the press, we just carried out the plan like a professional outfit.

Also, neither Pitt nor Syracuse has said a single disparaging word about Marinatto or the Big East since our announcement. There's no need to say anything at this point.

No. Your AD was handling The BEast's TV negotiations, and then decided to throw the conference under the bus by joining the ACC. So don't give me any holier than thou BS, Doc...

Baloney! For years Pitt has been futily trying to hold this peice of schitt league together while WVU was off sucking off the SEC and ACC for quarters just begging for an invite.

Then Meatball kept pushing the MORONIC Villanova thing and Pitt finally decided enough was enough. Fortunately for us, the B12 was interested in us which in turn forced the ACC to act. We were very fortunate that things turned out as well as they did for us.

Sure maybe in the back of the minds of the OU and TX Presidents they were thinking that in worst case scenario Bowlsby might help them but come on man, he would be negotiating himself right out of a Job if he did that!

Bowlsby spent even longer as our AD, does that mean he will be brokering a move for an institution to the Big Ten? He is a conference commissioner now, a position of much more esteem than any AD position. I don't see him wanting to come take such a job only to help destroy his new job in a few years.

He was the AD at Stanford, an extremely well respected academic institution. It could also be presumed that Presidents of other schools in perhaps a better academically perceived conference would be open to discussions with him.

I really do not like seeing how people in general assume that he got the job because he was the quickest to get down on his knees and kiss the asses of UT and to a lesser degree OU. He had a great job and is well respected. I highly doubt he leaves Stanford to be a Texas puppet.

Pitt, Syracuse, WVU, and every other original BEast football member has been looking for a way out of this mess since the first ACC raid. Anyone who thinks otherwise is deluding themselves. Had the football schools ever agreed to split and control our own destiny, none of this debate would be neccessary...
