RE: Should the Sun Belt change its name?
Just get a Top 25 ranked team and it won't matter what the leagues name is. I thought Troy U should have been ranked Top 25 with one of their
best SBC teams in the past plus UL and ASU should have had Top 25 votes if not a ranking at some point last Fall. Since there are many more bowl
games now maybe Top 25 polls needs to become Top 30 polls in the near future?

Ex SBC Commish' Wright Waters pulled a rabbit out of the hat with his all but single-handedly creating the NO's Bowl in the 'Belts 1'st year of operation,
but if there was any part of the SBC's early days that did not get covered it might have been in the lack of wine-ing and dining (all but bribing) all the
sportswriters in the SBC footprint as to consider giving some of the 'Belts better teams into the Top 25. Of course, winning against a known school that
is in and out of the Top 25 from year to year is almost essential in the "How To Get A Top 25 Ranking" recipe.

Even the MAC has had Top 25 ranked schools but they have that midwest newspaper market to vote their best teams in from time to time
(and not always annually for their top team) but at least that league had broken that very important cycle several years ago.

GMG!

It will happen in time. We're still young.
How many years did it take the MAC to break into the Top 20/25?

stAte had enough votes for 28th in the AP before the coaching staff split.

Well, as an outsider (Tulsa fan)....I think the Sun Belt is a good name. I've always liked it. However, I have always hated the C-USA name. Surely there must be a better name than that (no C-DOA jokes please).

Heres what I want to know. Why the heck is Tulsa called the Golden Hurricanes? They are no where near an Ocean! They are about middle of the country as it gets.

Before adopting the name Golden Hurricane in 1922, the University of Tulsa (TU) had many unofficial team nicknames including Kendallites (from TU's predecessor institution Henry Kendall College), Presbyterians (from the university's founding by the Presbyterian Church), Tulsans, Tigers, Orange and Black and Yellow Jackets. The name "Golden Tornadoes" was chosen by TU football coach H.M. Archer (1922–24) based on new gold and black uniforms (rather than the previous orange and black) and a remark made during practice of the team "roaring through opponents" (during a season when TU went undefeated, including wins over Texas A&M and the University of Arkansas). However, it was quickly discovered that the same name had been chosen in 1917 by Georgia Tech. Archer then substituted the term "hurricane" for "tornado" and a team vote prior to leaving for the game against Texas A&M confirmed the official nickname as "Golden Hurricane".[2]
