Thinking about divisions
If we merely add UTA, this is simple.
West: UTA, TXST, Louisiana, ULM, UALR, ASU
East: FAU, GaSt, USA, Troy, MT, WKU

If we go with GaSouth and App.
Basketball (goes unbalanced)
WEST: TXST, UALR, ASU, Louisiana, ULM, and either (MT/WKU or USA/Troy)
EAST: FAU, GaSt, GaSouth, App and either (MT/WKU or USA/Troy)
Football
West: TXST, ASU, ULM, Louisiana and either (MT/WKU or USA/Troy)
East: FAU, GaSt, GaSouth, App and either (MT/WKU or USA/Troy)

If we go with the little compromise (APP all sports, NMSU football only)
Gets a little stickier
Football
WEST: TXST, NMSU, ULM, Louisiana, ASU and...?
EAST: FAU, Ga.St, App, and...?
Either Troy/USA get split or WKU/MT get split

Basketball
West: TXST, ULM, Louisiana, UALR, ASU and..?
East: FAU, Ga.St, App, and...?
Either Troy/USA get split or WKU/MT get split

I was under the impression that the addition of UTA was pretty much a done deal. If that is so then your first easy divisions apply. But if in addition to UTA, App St and Ga So were added, then for basketball there would have to be two divisions of seven in basketball and two divisions of six in football. Things get pretty tricky in that senario.

If the league goes with 14 members, I would hope that we would finally do away with divisions all together in basketball and just have one standings. But the coaches seem to be in love with divisions in basketball, so that probably won't happen. Divisions would be a requirement in football if a Championship game was being considered.

And I totally agree with the "Forget about NMSU" sentiment.

WEST
ASU

*BOLD indicates olympic sports only.

UALR shifts and keeps ASU as cross divisional rival. i know its unorthodox but somebody has to shift and to my knowledge UALR's only Rival is ASU. make them our every year game. [/i]

RE: Thinking about divisions
The problem with shifting UALR away from ASU is that in a 14 team league, the logical scheduling process is to play 12 divisional games and 7 cross-over for 19 games. If you add a permanent cross-division game you either skip one school every year or you have to play a 20 game schedule (let's see how well that's received this year).

If you go with a permanent cross-over you have a number of schools that probably don't care for it. Using the division alignment proposed you get something like this
ASU-UALR
UL-WKU
ULM-MT
TXST-GaSouth
UTA - GaSt
Troy-App
USA-FAU

Well would it be beneficial to Add 2 east division Olympic sports schools?

Giving us 12 football 16 basketball. I think I read somewhere that UTA is considering adding football. Have two OLY teams in the east that 1 is interested in adding football at the same time as UTA.
