Just great...

I feel for you, CJ. But at least you've kept your sense of humor... 03-lmfao

RE: John Marinatto asked to resign by the league's presidents
If Big East can't beat them, might as well hire them.

Quote:In addition to his employment history, Mr. Bailey is a member of Duke’s Fuqua Center of Leadership and Ethics Advisory Board, Adjunct Professor for Duke Sports Medicine Feagin Program, member of the U.S. Olympic Committee’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, and member of the UK-based Beyond Sport Advisory Board.

Joe graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed Havard Business School’s Advanced Management Program.

Yes, this is a bad sign ....

Actually, its a GREAT sign that the new members, along with probably leaders at RU and other football schools are finally SERIOUS at finding a future leader that doesn't automatically get spit out by Providence College.

Now that the 8 new Big East schools are VOTING MEMBERS, there is a glimpse of hope that a new leader can be found...and that the Big East HQ can FINALLY BE MOVED OUT OF PROVIDENCE and moved to NEW YORK CITY...where is always belonged! (Media Center of the USA!)

This is something else, ie TV Contract and maybe a power play for the newer members of the league.

Maize, let's face it: Firing the commish in the midst of the new playoff system negotiations and with the media contract looming is a sign that we are probably not going to be above the Mendoza line. If the presidents had voted him a raise, it would be a positive sign. There is just no way to put a positive spin on this, it is clearly a sign that playoff system/media negotiations are NOT going well.

And you keep forgetting one thing: The "big 5" do NOT need to be in the numerical majority over the smaller conferences. In setting up a new system, they can do what they want to do.

It just keeps getting better and better:

Former Dallas Cowboys and NTRA executive Joe Bailey was named CEO of the Miami Dolphins Thursday.

You couldn't make crap like this up.

Former Dallas Cowboys and NTRA executive Joe Bailey was named CEO of the Miami Dolphins Thursday.

(from NTRA release)
Joe Bailey, former deputy commissioner and chief operating officer of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, has joined Dolphins Enterprises, a sports and entertainment company formed by Miami Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga.
Bailey, who will have the title of CEO, joins the Dolphins from Russell Reynolds Associates, a leading executive search firm. His background also includes 19 years as an executive with the Dallas Cowboys.

I don't know man. Initial reaction for me is that I have a few reservations.. Namely that the dolphins SUCK across the board as a football operation.

lol. True... But I grew up a Cowboys fan and those 19 years as an exec with the Cowboys came during some good times.

I keep thinking about Marrinato's comment that Tom Jurich was his hero. I wonder what deal those two might have had? What could transpire that would cause the leader of The Big East to utter such a phrase?
CJ

Me thinks...maybe just maybe he either lost UofL support or can no longer "count" on UofL support for him...not say'n...juz say'n.

Every one's favorite commish has resigned.

WALL STREET UPDATE: Orlando Based Fortune 500 Restaurant Company DRI, aka Darden Restaurants (OLIVE GARDEN, RED LOBSTER, etc...) is down $5.6 % in early trading due to the unexpected resignation of Big East Commission John Marinatto.

So because he's Italian ....

I see your a little late to the party (about 5-6 years) as those type of comments had more to the way the Big East had operated for YEARS...and how in some cases (actually in a lot of cases) how it mimicked the Italian Providence Outfit/Mafia in many ways (both historically and via satire).

PS. Go look up which food in particular that the Big East ran out of at their most recent Big East MEDIA DAYS...as that will give you just a hint as to why I choose to select Darden Restaurants in the example above.

Don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining. Also don't tell me about big easy matter from five years ago. I've been following the big east for over 13 years.

Yes, but that's a different issue. Clearly, it is a BAD sign about how our financial fortune has been evolving with regards to the playoff system and media rights negotiations.

Good point---But no sports team likes Scott Boras, yet that doesnt seem to stop his clients from getting paid more money than other simiar players represented by other agents. It may not matter if NBC likes him or not.

As for the four team playoff...it's still four team. Even if the Big East goes away there are five "bcs conferences" and only four playoff spots so every year one or more "big boy" conferences will not be playing in the playoff.

it's not like they kept the BCS and voted us "out"....with the remaining five conferences sitting pretty untouched.

Yes, this is a bad sign for those who have been optimistic about the upcoming media negotiations and whether we will retain our "big boy" share of revenue from the new 4-team playoff system, because it likely means that the University Presidents are not optimistic about them.

Or at least not optimistic that Marinatto could get them there. Maybe Joe Bailey or someone else could. You don't fire a guy at this time without a plan. Nothing has failed yet. This strikes me as a proactive move, not a retribution.

Please hire Kevin Weiberg, if it isn't too late for him to do some good.

Fake Dan Beebe can be vice commissioner.
