If so- wonder if Fresno is aboard as well.... As kind of a hook for Boise.

To me one thing that is very interesting to watch- is the group of schools that are fb only in Big east, bb in Big West. If Big East falls apart, I don't look for them to go back to the MWC. I look for Big West at that point to start sponsoring FBS football, and becoming a hybrid. Especially if Big West has like 4-5 schools playing football in Big East.

Assuming you mean if the BB only Big East schools split and Big East totally implodes---I think it would be more likley that the Big East western conference schools would create thier own new conference. A mix of mostly the current Mountain West and current CUSA west schools. Something like this

Boise
Fresno
SDSU
AF
BYU
SMU
Houston
Tulsa
S Miss
Memphis
Hawaii/UNLV
Tulane/LaTech

Just a thought- but what if the team that was coming with Boise wasn't Fresno- but UNLV.

For UNLV- it would be returning to their roots to a large degree. They were in the big west and the predecessor PCAA from 82-96.

And- a conference with UNLV, San Diego St, and Long Beach St- that's a pretty nice group of 3 schools there.

Isn't that the Yoda plan to save the WAC circa 2003? He wanted to grab some South teams to add to the WAC Texas teams and create an eastern division and along with a Cali/ west division and shut out the MWC front range schools...

It is for non-football sports only.

Guess Seattle or denver could be paired with boise to get to 12 if those school's offered some travel $ too. Heck, maybe idaho could be teamed with boise to ease travel.

RE: I didn't want to say this, but Boise State to Big West, I told ya so.
kind of a thought on the impact these would have:
before- using 2012 memberships:
2012 MWC 79.63-Big West 220.22
2011 MWC 104.88-Big West 206.77
new- with SDSU,BSU,UNLV,Hawaii to Big West:
2012 MWC 128.13-Big West 176.17
2011 MWC 131.25-Big West 180.33

The thing for UNLV here- it would be a step down. Not as big as one would think however. Also, with the Big East Guarantee games- that would mitigate it to large degree.

lol...which Yoda plan? Arent there about 1000 of them? No doubt he has suggested something similar at some point.

I know the MW talked to Houston and SMU around 2009/2010 about maybe joining...so some version of the concept has been around for a while. At that time it may simply have been a way to give TCU some more regional games while gaining a larger hold on the Texas market.

".....trying to get in the Big West"

It would be embarrassing if they can't get into The Big West.

the rumor on the streets is that it will be UNLV. From an SDSU/Big West perspective UNLV brings better basketball than Fresno. Of course that sucks for the Big East as they add another bottom feeder program that doesn't really care about football to go with Memphis.

But such is the price of poker.

What's in it for the Big West? SDSU fits into their California bus league plan. Boise doesn't fit, and Boise's non-football sports don't add any value to the Big West.

They might as well let in Seattle or Denver if they're going to turn the Big West into a home for WAC orphans. Nearly all of the Big West teams could at least fly nonstop to Seattle or Denver.

Hmm - you could set up a division with Boise, SDSU, Denver, Seattle, Hawaii and rotate one other team through every 8 years.

Would cut down on costs for the big West teams.

Hawaii, Seattle and Denver wouldn't pay anymore in travel than they do now. SDSU and Boise have the Big East money to cover costs

My hunch is that Big West told Boise that you get us UNLV back, and we'll let you in. Getting UNLV back would be HUGE for the Big West.

lol. Boise already got them SDSU... A basketball program every bit as good as UNLV.

Honestly, UNLV to the Big East is not going to happen. It makes no sense for the Big East or UNLV. The UNLV football program is a program that has been to a total of 3 bowls since 1978. Simply said, its historically one of the worst programs in the nation. Secondly---basketball is UNLV's meal ticket. They are not going to relegate basketball to the Big West.

The Big East would be better off just giving the Big West a million bucks a year to take Boise than adding a football program like UNLV's. Hate to sound harsh, but that team would would bring nothing to the table and would simply be another mouth to feed. Why add UNLV if you are not getting the best thing about UNLV, thier excellent basketball team? Mark it down, its not happening.

Unless boise is paying all travel, i don't see what is in it for the big west. I do disagree with the wcc blocking seattle though. If the big east is willing to take unlv, why not just take hawaii? what's a couple more hours on the plane + you get the extra home football game. I guess the big east could take both and bring in byu/afa too.

west: hawaii, sd state, unlv, byu, boise, afa, smu, houston

east: uconn, rutgers, temple, cincy, lville, memphis, usf, ucf

Send new mex state + idaho to the mwc.

Yep, I think the Big West would prefer UNLV with better basketball and would accept Fresno. It will be interesting if they compromise on Fresno with better football or go with UNLV.
