College of Charleston would be a solid non-football add. I'd rather have them than UTA. Gets us in a new area, an awesome area, and splits up the non-football east-west.

SCST is up to their eyeballs in debt, and just a few months ago was considering dropping athletics programs. I think they had a $4 mil budget shortfall after just last year, and the state was getting involved in some financial questions.

I agree....not a bad footprint.
FAU is a tad bit low though....they're above FIU.

First of all, you are all wrong about New Mexico State.

They should be added ASAP.

After that, I would add all of these schools:

Oral Roberts, App St, and Georgia Southern.

WEST

New Mexico State
Texas State
UT-Arlington
Oral Roberts
Arkansas State
UALR
UL-Monroe
Louisiana

EAST

South Alabama
Troy
Middle Tennessee
WKU
Appalachain State
Georgia State
Georgia Southern
Florida Atlantic

18 schools.

Big East model. Maximize tourney revenue chances.

We need to go after Cambridge. We would dominate the London market, just think of all of the TV sets and how much of a untapped media market we would have. Media Market is everything!

18 schools = dividing what little money we receive among more members. No thanks.

RE: Map of Current SBC and Potential Candidates
Could we potentially go North/South instead of East/West? It's a bit of a stretch, I know.

North
App St
WKU
MT
Georgia St
Georgia Southern
stAte
(UALR)

South
FAU
Troy
USA
ULM
Louisiana
Texas St
(UT-A)

FAU will always be an outlier and require a flight, regardless of division.

It will be interesting to see how the divisions are set up. It appears the east has slightly more schools than the west so one school will be unhappy about being in the west.

I updated the first map

Coastal Carolina's football coach is some investment banker who wants to play football for a while and who gave a bunch of money to the program. Don't see their program as improving with boneheaded coaching decisions like that.

I am betting the answer is South.
But with two BB only schools west of us, I guess we could still end up in East for BB. Not sure how that will work out.

But I think the BB rivalries are what South fans would want preserved.
Football is so new that there are no real rivalries yet.
Moving some of those rivalries from the court to the gridiron would have been sweet, but as long as Troy is the protected rival, I think the beeotching would be at a minimum.

Troy would have to be preserved though.
Same State, already rivals in other sports, you can drive from USA to Troy without stopping for gas, etc.

Could FAU be the compromise in all-sports moving to the west? Its a plane flight for everybody down to Boca Roton.

West
Arkansas State
Arkansas-Little Rock
FAU
Louisiana
Louisiana-Monroe
Texas State
UTA

East
App State
Georgia Southern
Georgia State
Middle Tennessee
South Alabama
Troy
Western Kentucky

I think you'd probably flip the Troy/USA and WKU/MTSU pairings east and west. After looking at it further, I'd be ok with it as a South fan. Troy would kind of get a raw deal though. But, we'd likely all play 3 cross divisional games each year in football, and could have one of those as a recurring cross divisional "rivalry" game. That would help ease a lot of concerns I'd think.

RE: Map of Current SBC and Potential Candidates
SC State, sad to say, would not be a good candidate. They have no baseball program (which is almost a requirement in the Sun Belt). Outside of Orangeburg County their only following is alums and students. They don't have a radio affiliate in Charleston, and struggle to get a following in the Columbia area.

Their football and their band keeps their sports programs afloat. They only have a $5 million endowment.

I go to College of Charleston, and their fans have higher aspirations. The Sun Belt would be an interesting league, but they used to be in the TAAC.
