RE: ***Official St. Louis Cardinals Thread***
My first vivid memories revolve around time spent with my grandfather. After dinner, he would go back into his bedroom or sit on the back patio and watch baseball on television (Mostly STL, but followed the Angels as well since he lived in California for some time) If a game was on the radio, he'd have it on there (either in addition to the tv *listened during commercials, etc or by itself...he always muted the TV during commercials *a small detail that I'll never forget) I always enjoyed sitting beside him and talking baseball. He would school me on the history and finer points of the game. I became a huge fan of the Wizard, still my favorite of all time.
"Go crazy, folks! Go crazy!" - Game 5 1985 NLCS (Ozzie Smith hit a game winning home run) Oh, what a great player he was...more defensively...but, simply amazing. Also gave one of the best HOF speeches I've ever heard.

You probably don't know squat about the Braves.
That may be the most foolish thing you've ever posted.

Don't remember exactly what he said, but from that day forward I knew the New York Yankees and their pinstripes were a force to be reckoned with.
That said, my first memory of the Cardinals was the '64 World Series. I was just a wee toddler, but somehow knew they had become World Champions in dramatic fashion and by family tradition would be my favorite team.
Next I'm going tell how McCarver got on my dad's bad side (at Sportsman's Park and stayed there, lol.
Lots' of memories, there. Born Chicago, but grew up 15 minutes from the ball park on the IL. side. We used to get front row down the left field side. Musial threw us a ball once during batting practice but caught us off guard. My older brother threw his beer in the air and I about pee'd my pants going for it. E-7-11.

I know they have one three World Series. Of course, one was in Boston and one was in Milwaukee but when you are that far behind the Cardinals you have to stretch a bit.

I may join in this conversation from time to time. I'm a STL resident, so the Cards are my second team (Rangers are my first team since they are the team I grew up with...the WS was bittersweet for me last year)

My pee wee team had just won some kind of Shelby County Championship. Our reward was a carpool trip to St. Louis. We stayed at a YMCA (barracks style) somewhere near the Park. The team knew why we were there and agreed to come out of the dugout and sign autographs. Naturally, being from Memphis, we all wanted to see McCarver. He was busy warming up or something and blew us off. Dad never forgave him for that. Can't stand him to this day. My dad is on his last legs now and not really aware of all that much, but I remember how he would mute the TV once McCarver became an announcer. Couldn't stand him or his babbling, lol.

McCarver and Buck are probably the worst broadcast duo in baseball.

I remember as a kid getting annoyed when Harry Carry would switch over to the TV broadcast and I'd have to listen to Buck on my radio. Carry was a great announcer for kids. As I grew older, Jack Buck became my favorite announcer of all time.

The next several weeks will be telling. We've got the Braves twice, Giants, Dodgers, Mets and whoever else.

I was just a kid on my only trip to Wrigley. Don't remember much other than the Ivy and Ernie Banks. Lou Brock set some kind of stolen base record. I remember they stopped the game and presented him with the second base bag, to a stranding O. Still can't figure out what that record was.

RE: ***Official St. Louis Cardinals Thread***
I was at Wrigley 3 weeks ago to root against the Cubs and the Reds at the same time. Ivy was in fool bloom in April. Odd. Anywho, on another visit during a Cardinal series my son goes to buy a couple of dogs late in the game. Concession guy is closing up the condiment shelf and my son asks, "Sir, can I get some onions?" Guy is scooping them out with a ladle about the size of hald a grapefruit. Guy looks at him and drops his eyes to see my kid's Cardinal shirt. Cards are up by a comfortable margin. Guy frowns and dumps about a full pound of onions on both dogs--couldn't even see the dogs any more. Been to plenty of Cards-Cubs games in STL, but this one was a blast. Cubbie fans flat out hate our asses.

You sound like Vol basketball fans who claim a better history vs. the Tigers because they are up in the head-to-head series.

Had the Braves not have choked away a 9-game lead going into the final 9 games of the year then the Cardinals would not have even made the playoffs let alone, won the damn thing. So you can thank ATL for that.
However, we're back and kicking butt. Sweep, sweep.

Sorry Paz, they choked and the Cards capitalized.
That's why they're the Defending World Champs and the Braves are... well... not...
