It doesn't guarantee postseason success, but we give ourselves a chance in every game. If we can solidify our bullpen (maybe Martinez is the answer) then we have a chance to win whatever series we are in. This is a big 4 game series with the Dodgers coming up.

Thanks to Maddon the Cards may get to host wildcard game.

Cubs up by 1 bases loaded 1 out.

Strop has never gotten more than 6 outs ever in the majors.

Strop had already pitched 1.3 innings.

Maddon calls back LaStella the man who has 21 pinch hits so far this year and keeps Strop in to hit.

He not only hits into DP but also injures himself running to first.

Strop out for a few weeks and the Cubs depleted bullpen now gets thinner.

10 games left. Tough schedule ahead. I like our chances if we can win the one game playoff.

Will MLB ever get rid of umpires calling balls and strikes? Daggum ump in the 3rd cost us a run. This game has playoff implications. The digital strike tracker has proven to be accurate. Time to make the change. Ump can still stand there for plays at the plate.

Cards picked the worse time of the year for the bats to fall asleep and get swept by the Brewers.

That was the single worst base running mistake/error that probably cost a postseason. I honestly wanted the Cards to win this one. Can't believe he fell down... I don't think the Rockies lose to the Phillies or Washington. Both are playing like they just quit.

We are chasing the Dodgers now for the last spot. They are 1 game ahead of us but we have the tiebreaker with them. We are playing the Cubs while they are at the Giants. It would help if we sweep the Cubs.

Well the entire season is down to Cards/Dodgers last three games. If the Cards can make up that one game after the Sunday games there'd be a one game playoff game in St Louis on Monday with the Cards and Dodgers playing for the right to go to Milwaukee (assuming the Cubs hang on and win the division) for the Wild Card game. Hopefully the Giants will do us a favor sweeping the Dodgers while the Cards take two of three in Chicago. Assuming Milwaukee beats Detroit this would drop the Cubs to the Wild Card game hosting the Cards who are already in town. Then the Cards could hopefully send the Cubs home for the year.

1 game back, 2 games to play. Cards win two and Dodgers lose two, it's still tied. 1-1 in the 5th tonight.

Dodgers won so we are 2 games back with 2 to play. Not much wiggle room there.

Well the Dodgers won so it's over for our Cardinals this year. It's amazing after spinning their wheels and hovering around .500 most of the season what a managerial change accomplished. I never imagined they'd get back in the playoff race much less hold one of the playoff spots for most of September. I think they're sitting good, especially at the starting rotation for next season. Hopefully some Fall ball may allow Hicks to once again find the strike zone. Don't know about Wainwright. It'll sure be an interesting offseason.

I wish we made the final push to the playoffs, but it is great that we played a minor part in pushing the Cubs into a playoff for the division, which pushed the Cubs into the wildcard, which pushed the Cubs from the post season to the off season. Enjoy the winter Cubs!

Cardinals are my favorite team. The other two teams I like the best are whoever is playing the Cubs or the Red Sox. Awesome.

Well the Cards did sign Wainwright for one more season. Terms weren't announced but I'm sure it was very team friendly. It appears to me now the Cards have about ten starting pitchers for 2019. Wainwright, Wacha, Martinez, Gomber, Hudson, Poncedeleon, Weaver, Flaherty, Gant and Mikolas. Should make for a very interesting Spring Training next season.

It's a good thing. Even if Wainwright doesn't pitch a game he can certainly help the young pitchers.
