It offends our sensibilities to see things like this. But these guys are trained to not humanize their enemies. You humanize them it makes you less effective in combat. They have to be willing to kill without feeling and without remorse. It won't work any other way. And that is unfortunate. It's why war is such a tragedy, win or lose.
I look at the way Lincoln waged the Civil War. Grant and Sherman leveled total war. That's what it took to beat the south into submission. Once submission had been achieved, then you treat them humanely.
No, it's not supposed to normalize their behavior. You don't want anything to be normal about it. They are training them for war.

If you don't support their actions, then don't defend it.
I haven't even seen the actual pictures, so I neither defend nor criticize their actions. I don't spend my time looking for ways to discredit my nation or its service members.

Fine, keep playing stupid, you ******* retarded. There is no link to the pictures nor are they present on the article. If they're as benign as the descriptions, odds are I probably don't have a problem with them. If they're dry-humping a corpse of a murdered Afghani civilian, that would be one thing. I'm not gonna shed a single ******* tear for some dead suicide bomber's missing hand. I have more important things than tracking down these photos. You keep living in your delusional world where you think you have some sort of illogical moral high ground, and where suicide bombers deserve elevation to "victim" status. I'm done.

Bro, these people are in a war zone and they could be dismembered or killed tomorrow - - - and they're doing it for us. If you have a better way then by all means hop on the next plane and head over there.

The vast majority of them are. Unfortunately in today's instant communication paradigm...the bad apples are going to be exposed very quickly. I don't condone this...but.. Anyone that thinks this stuff has not ALWAYS gone on under the pressure of battle is a moron. It just did not get reported.

Really? Yet we don't expect that from the Secretary of State?
Those photos of Sec. Clinton desecrating the dead got out? She must be slipping.
EDIT: More importantly, do you not expect members of the military to hold themselves to a higher standard?
I do expect them to, just as I expect it from myself. The difference between myself and them is that my service isn't infantry and very few are in Afghanistan. I've seen death but it is seen through a drowned stranger and not through our friends body parts scattered from an IED. I've been on a couple of boarding teams that have seized large sums of coke and guns but I've never been regularly shot at and rarely had to worry about it.
I think that professionalism that we call for is easy to maintain on the 1st, 2nd, and maybe 3rd tour but eventually someone's going to become just desensitized enough to not care anymore. I think that it isn't fair to judge unless you've been there.
Nobody deserves a "pass" for this type of behavior. Call it judgement or call it standards, but a line was crossed here and there will be consequences.
It is damn easy to pass judgement when we are safe and sound on American soil. Ill leave it to the military to dispense the appropriate punishment without comment.

Final comment on this from me....
These men are OUR PAID KILLERS. It is their job to kill on command and without remorse. I will not judge them on this. I am not really worthy of it.

No government employees are above judgement. I don't care what their job is. If they step out of line, there are consequences. I trust that the pentagon will punish them appropriately.

We argue semantics and politics, while our armed forces are put through hellish conditions and get paid less than a computer programmer's average salary.

RE: More Embarrassing Military Photos
I don't like it, I don't think anyone does, but given the situation (it being a suicide bombers remains), I am far more understanding of their actions than if it had been a civilian or even a dead afghani regular (which don't exist, I realize). This entire situation, however, isn't akin to the gross misconduct and lack of oversight of the abu ghraib incidents, and I think most outrage is based on the aesthetically offensive photos and not what the photos themselves represent.
