If you want to get into semantics technically Army and Buffalo are part of the BCS.

Good to see Syracuse is handing over more money to the Steinbrenners. Hope that publicity helps if the football attendance figures drop to 30,000.

Nah..no reason to have your name associated with the greatest sports franchise in the world...shown to millions of fans on TV about 80 times a year.

Smart move...especially with their upcoming game in Sept in the NYC area vs USC at The Met in NJ.

RE: Yankee Stadium Has a New Sign
i've got to hand it to syracuse for keep plugging away on their ny's team bit. Lets be honest here, unless they have a direct connection to the school, very few people in metro ny care about syracuse. Army is less then an hour from manhattan and gets ZERO attention from the media, Rutgers get minimal attention and cuse only if there is a major event (that every other media market is covering)

For the record, Manhattan to syracuse is about a 4 1/2 drive

Some schools closer then 4 1/2 hours to manhattan:
Army
UConn
Rutgers
Boston College
UMass
Penn St
Temple
Maryland

Why dont any of these schools stake the claim as being NY's team? 05-stirthepot

Cuz other than Army (which is a special case) none of them are located in NY State.

Remember NY's Team also means Upstate NY and no one would dispute that Syracuse is most popular team in Upstate NY.

Rutgers, Army and UConn all do so in a more subtle way.

I giggled. So by BCS, you must mean 'AQ'. So Rutgers, being in Newark, New Jersey, wouldn't count. Army wouldn't count. Buffalo wouldn't count. That's a shame. Has Syracuse ever won a national championship?

We have more NC's than USF and UCF combined.

I'm pretty sure Army has more national championships in D-I football than Syracuse. Shouldn't that make them New York's team? 03-razz

POTD!!!

Also, Syracuse is the only "BCS AQ " NY State Team (other I-A schools of Buffalo and Army are not).

Also, Yankess are easily the most popular baseball team in most of Upstate NY...and this tags along to Cuse doing promotion/advertising in NYC over the last few years (where are large concentration of their alumni and future students are located).
