Great news! I was afraid they might try and drop Louisville out of the Top 25 with an off week, but they actually held serve in one poll, and moved up 2 spots in another one!

Makes perfect sense, doesn't it?

Michigan escapes with a three-point win over San Diego State in Ann Arbor. They fall one spot to #18.
Fresno State beats I-AA Portland State 27-17 and they move up two spots to #17.
Wisconsin barely hangs on after an Arizona missed field goal and wins 9-7. They remain at #20.
Boise State scores 20 points in the 4th quarter to scrap out a 47-31 win at UTEP. They move up two spots to #21.
Memphis scores 28 points in the 4th quarter to scrap out a 47-35 victory at Arkansas State. They fall two spots, out of the poll, to #27 in votes.

Funny thing is, none of that's as bad as Iowa staying in the Coaches Poll after getting DISMANTLED by Arizona State (44-7). They had 150 yards of total offense.

The polls are so stupid.

Exactly. But they were so eager to put a BCS team in the Top 25 they put Oklahoma State in the Top 25. What has Oklahoma State done to displace Memphis in the Top 25? Or Iowa to remain in the Top 25? Like you mentioned, there have been a ton of near misses and those teams were rewarded. Memphis avoids a near miss and get dropped not just out of the Top 25 but TWO SPOTS. The media is so hypocritical. They rip West Virginia for winning close game but praise other schools for winning close games. They reward some teams for rallying to beat inferior opponents but punish Memphis for taking care of business and rallying. It's just a joke.

I can understand the voters turning away from Memphis. They pulled a rabbit out of their arse to escape a horrid div 1aa team and the win vs. Ole Miss is looking less impressive by the day.

At this point of the season the polls are all about name schools. Notre Dame beats a team that Rutgers beat and the get votes in the polls? Why because they are the Irish. Another example, MD loses to WVU, the best of what many in media call a "watered down Big East" and they only fall two spots. WVU must be better than many want to admit or wouldn't a loss to the Eer's drop the Terps further than two spots. Heck Memphis won and fell out of the polls. Why because voters aren't use to seeing the Tigers in the polls. I see the Tigers where we were 10 years ago. I remember in 1993 being ranked, winning and falling out of the polls. Perhaps the Cardinals have turned the corner as far as the polls are concerned. We didn't even play and moved up two spots in one poll and stayed the same in the other.

We don't deserve to be ranked right now. If we can beat UAB and Houston and go to 5-0, then maybe we deserve a top 25 ranking. However, I don't think we deserve one right now.
