Don't think we are recruiting him period! Last I heard/read, he was visiting Bradley and they were recruiting him hard.

Dennis,

Point of clarification:

Are we not recruiting him OR is he not interested or don't know which?

Recruiting is like a marriage, both have to want to walk down the aisle.

Not sure if we ever recruited Barden but apparently we are not recruiting him now! Don't know why? He would have seemed like a natural scorer for us.

Ah, we don't know then who was not interested, player or school.

I would not assume anything.

My guess is 90% of the time with 3 star recruits (or recruits of Barden's abilities) is that they aren't interested in EMU.

This is one reason why coaches don't like to get into recruiting.

I agree from a fan's perspective there is little fanfare unlike the football signing class to generate interest in the program (ditto womens' hoop recruiting which may be the plot for the next Mission Impossible movie).

Hopefully this all improves with Murphy's 2013 class.

Now back to my nap.zzzz

IF they are waiting on Still's grades, it will be four weeks.

http://www.hfcc.edu/programs/academic_ca...efault.asp

My take is that Murphy isn't going to dribble (no pun intended) his list of signees.

We know that Lee and Ross are signed.

We have Mike Talley's father's word about Mike III. He to has academics to complete before he can transfer.

What I found most interesting, and it would take until hell freezes over, are there any OTHER transfers out there of mutual interest to EMU.

I look at these lists of D-I transfers and the lists just seem to grow and grow.

If I were Murphy, I'd have a staff member comb through the list of transfers and make a simple database or even a simple spreadsheet (e.g., name, college, hometown, class, position, height, PPG, etc. etc.) and then have the staff meet and review each one to see if that player should be further researched.

IF I found a nice big man there, I'd make contact with the player's school.

MY GUESS: Ross and Lee get announced soon.

Still and Talley in May after completing their ongoing collegiate academics.

IF (BIG IF) there is another transfer he could be announced in May with Talley and Still.

(think this is my 10K post - wow, 10,000 since January 2004).

10.000 posting wow... I have a long way to go to reach this goal..Congratulation..

Thanks for the informational posting you have provided to this board. It has been very helpful...

Here is confirmation of Ross' signing.

http://www.news-record.com/blog/55665/entry/141543

P.S. what are we all anxious about (other than the Tigs losing vs. Chi WS)?

Still, Lee and Ross are signed.

Talley will sign when Talley can...

As of yesterday Rivals shows Lee, Still and Ross being signed. I would expect a formal announcement any day now. With Talley joining us I think we're done for this year.

I keep going around and around in my mind what the 'no press release means'.

Are they waiting for Talley?

Are they still looking for another recruit, esp. a big man transfer?

I still think there ARE good big men transfers I would take in a heart beat.

The kid from Temple - immediate eligible as a graduate, the kid Pritcher (or something like that), there is a big man from OSU, Witherspoon, from Columbus, who just indicated he is transferring.

I've never seen so many good transfers out there waiting to be plucked.

RE: Countdown to Signing Day
Here is what I'm speaking regarding QUALITY transfers who can make a difference in the MAC (or A-10).

I'd like to see Witherspoon trade the scarlett and gray for the green and white...

http://menofthescarletandgray.com/

Jordan Sibert a 6’4″ SG from Cincinnati is a sophomore with 2 years of eligibility left. Sibert was expected to battle for playing time this past year but lost his battle with Lenzelle Smith Jr. and Sam Thompson. Sibert could never find consistency in his shooting and ended up sitting on the end of the bench for most of the year and was rumored to be very unhappy all year. Coach Matta had this to say about Jordan “Jordan has worked to improve since he became a Buckeye two years ago,” Matta said. “He has represented our program well and we wish him the best.” You can read the entire Ohio State press release here. Rumors are he will end up at Dayton but may also choose a MAC school to be closer to his hometown.

JD Weatherspoon a 6’6″ SF from Columbus is a sophomore with 2 years of eligibility left. Weatherspoon is a pure athlete with serious hops. He was a fan favorite for his dunks and effort but as a whole never developed the skills needed to be a starter. Coach Matta had this to say about JD “J.D. has done everything we’ve asked,” Matta said. “I can relate to a young man’s desire to play. I was in his shoes during my collegiate career. His teammates and our staff appreciate the hard work J.D. has put in to make our team better. We wish him nothing but the best.” You can read the entire Ohio State press release here. As of this moment JD says he doesn’t know where he will transfer to but most expect it to be a MAC school with the possibility of going with Sibert to Dayton where former OSU Asst. Coach Archie Miller is now the Flyers HC. Miller recruited both players to OSU. Archies staff also includes former OSU Assts. as well.

'79, let me add a bit:

AFTER the signing period ends, the relationship between the signee and school changes.

Players signing during the signing period are mutually committed - both player to school and school to player.

AFTER the signing period ends, the school is committed to the player but the player can rescind his commitment.

The relationship is 'asymmetrical', not 'symmetrical' or mutual.

Why I don't know.

Good find.

An interesting point:

Rivals showed three schools:

CMU, EMU and CLE State.

He signed with none of them.

I assume CMU/EMU/Cle State was old information from 2011.

EDIT: Reading the article in the next post, it seems No. Colorado started recruiting Barden in August. How OLD is 'C/EMU/Cle State'? Summer 2011????? That's pretty old...

Old information can be a real problem. I look for recent updates and if not finding any, I ignore the old stuff.

Apparently there was an article in "JUCO Junction" (I think) a couple months ago but it was a pay site for which I didn't have access.

So we all lived with very stale information.

EDIT2: I subscribe to Rivals.com and Scout.com but a good bit of the information may require a subscription to a particular site within one of those networks, e.g., JUCO Junction, a particular school (e.g., the school in Ann Arbor), etc.

More info on Barden.

Apparently his final two were No. Colorado and Northwestern State in Louisiana.

http://www.oaoa.com/sports/hunter-86122-...arden.html

I suspect EMU was not a player for some time and I wonder if at the end if EMU seriously recruited him.

Just my 2 cents...

With one scholarship left, Murphy will be very selective to whom he offers it.

Always looking for big fella that can contribute. What ever happened to the big kid (PULUKEIS) SP from Countruy Day, a late bloomer at 6'9 / 6'10? Even if you had to redshirt him, big men are hard to find. I beleive he is Lithuanian.

You are right on HOOPS.

I'll do a thread on hoop recruiting resources.

Bottom line: lightly recruited players are very hard to follow.

I now really believe, not confirmed, that EMU is done recruiting for the '12 class.

I believe a lot of schools are trying to hold an extra scholarship for the '13 class.

Quite frankly the '12/'13 team is 2-deep at each position so recruiting another prospect is hardly critical.

And I believe some of the new players (e.g., Harrison, Lee, Talley and Still) can play multiple positions.

Harrison can probably play some SF. Lee both guards. And Still can be a backup center. Even though Talley isn't tall I believe he can also play SG.

Guys, it may be time to declare victory, close down 'Recruiting '12' and enjoy the summer... (e.g., baseball, long walks, the beach, Olympics, etc.).

Recruiting resumes in the late summer/early fall when the mid-major recruits decide where they want to go. (coaches and recruits, going through the evaluation process, need the summer to kind of figure who is interested in whom).

By late summer the recruiting analysts will know whom is a high major prospect, whom is a MAC prospect, and whom is neither...

BTW, all Murphy needs to do is issue the press release for the '12 signees and that should close the '12 recruiting book, once and for all.
