“Under my plan . . . electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.”
Obama’s 2008 Electricity Remark May Come Back to Bite Him
Friday, 06 Apr 2012 12:39 PM

It looks like President Barack Obama will pay a price for his admission in January 2008 that his energy policy would mean “electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket,” Politico reports.

In an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle at that time, Obama said, “If somebody wants to build a coal-fired power plant, they can. It’s just that it will bankrupt them.” He was answering a question about his cap-and-trade plan. He went on to say, “Under my plan . . . electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.”

While cap and trade isn’t going anywhere, coal-fired power plants are closing up around the country, with owners blaming regulations from the Environmental Protection Agency.

Many industry officials say the administration’s proposed greenhouse gas regulations are meant to wipe out the coal industry.

Republicans say the electricity quote shows Obama’s true feelings.

“There’s one promise he’s kept. One promise he’s kept,” Republican presidential front-runner Mitt Romney said at a campaign event last month.

“When he campaigned, he said he wanted to raise the price of gasoline. He said that under him, energy costs would skyrocket. And then he brought in people to help him implement those policies,” Romney added.

And when those prices skyrocket, it will will be the people who work who will subsidize those things for people who don't.

If Romney has any brains at all, he'll use his entire campaign budget keeping this soundbyte on a continuous loop until November.

The irony is that the people this hurts the worst are the people the president purports to champion.

The CEO in the Bentley? Think he cares what it costs him to gas up?

Now, how about the guy moppin' floors on the third shift and driving a 20 year old Dodge?

Well...The Liberals can't abandon their campaign on global warming and environmental issues for the sake of poor folks. They have to stick to their guns so they can continue to get the cash from the rich do gooders to stay in office.

BTW....Conservatives can't abandon their little money raising issues for the good of the middle class either...for the same damn reason.04-cheers

RE: “Under my plan . . . electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.”
Don't worry - I'm sure Romney's staff have created a vault of COTUS' insane 2008 promises and comments, and will show how he has steered the economy further into a ditch. Examples:
- highest corp tax rates on the planet despite CEO's regularly explaining the importance of reducing them to stimulate investment and job growth
- having the U.S. credit downgraded for the first time in our history
- cash for clunkers and bailouts of industries
- hiring the GE guy to help improve exports and then he moves his entire division to China
- the Solyndra (sp) debacle
- the NLRB blocking the Boeing plant expansion to South Carolina even though Boeing was not cutting a SINGLE job in their unionized Seattle plant
- the regulatory overkill of EPA, OSHA, FDA, and other agencies that add costs to thousands of items and processes across the USA (and those are passed on to the US consumer)
- the surge of energy costs, particularly gasoline
- ObamaCare
- the unprecedented escalation of debt

COTUS will be held to task on these unmitigated atrocities in this re-election year.

If he is re-elected, then America fully deserves whatever happens. No sympathy from me as I'll be planning my retirement overseas.

This is a good list of failures by Obama and I'm sure there are many more. It's inconceivable to me that anyone would knowingly vote for 4 more years of that.

-Yeah, because if they lower taxes will stimulate CEO salaries.
-By a bunch of partisan hacks.
-While I think there were problems with cash for clunkers(the cost of remaining used cars has gone up). Auto bailout was successful.
-THis is a problem.
-I guess we should have not even tried to have an industry that would serve us well in the future and should have just let China grab another industry(which is what happened in the end).
-I didn't follow this closely other than it might have been an attempt to break the union.
-We all know you righties are pro-pollution, pro-corporation, anti-worker and absolutely hate safe food.
-Thanks to the wealthy speculators.
-Single payer or public option would have been beter but getting everyone covered, no lifetime limits, "children" staying on parents insurance to 26, no pre-existing conditions are a good start.
-unprecedented? 03-lmfao

So if things from this decade are the only things that matter, why do many libs bring up Bush? Why does Robert insist Ron Paul is racist? Why did Newts other wives get to talk? Why does the Santorum bringing his dead baby home (which is creepy, don't get me wrong) matter? Why does Mitt passing Romneycare matter?

Robert, I agree with SMN that COTUS will not get re-elected in November with his horsesh^t record of abject failure in his first term. But if he does, it really is no skin off my nose. I'll be in Central America, A-PAC, or the Caribbean laughing at America collapsing while kicking back in retirement.

Sure, how about this: by curbing the investment in new power plant production, much in the last several months, prices will skyrocket in the next few years.

Probably right about the time that the GOP starts winning back major positions, and you'll (both specifically you, and others like you) start blaming high costs on them.

How's that you lying POS?

Hey Torch I notice you're no longer a CUSA TV consultant... Can I assume that you were the unnamed editor of that 911 tape?
