Quote:Some economists suspect that a statistical quirk in seasonal adjustments may have overstated the rebound in the job market. Because the 2007-09 recession was unusually deep, and the depth of it came in the winter months, the seasonal comparisons may now be skewed, according to Wells Fargo economist Joe Seydl.

You don't say! 03-lmfao I guess Wells Fargo is in on the conspiracy.

Quote:Doubts about the official jobless rate have prompted some economists to turn to an alternate measure: the employment-to-population ratio, which paints a more sobering picture of the employment outlook.

You mean some people would actually look beyond the official BLS unemployment number to make an informed opinion on the overall picture of employment? But why?

Because we all know the BLS is in the tank for Obama and wanting to make the president look good. Never mind this same BLS said we were losing 800,000 jobs/mo under Bush. Or maybe they cut off a zero or something.

Look, however you slice and measure the unemployment rate, gaining over 150k jobs/month is a positive, because even under the most conservative econ estimates you're outpacing population growth. Over 200k like we've had the last 4 months is very significant improvement from one month to the next and the America people will give due credit to COMMANDER IN CHIEF BARACK OBAMA in November if this keeps up.

Those people in search of profit in the marketplace couldn't have forged forward if there wasn't demand for their products and services, which the stimulus helped supply starting in 2009 at a time when the average American was hit hard and wasn't spending.

And about that borrowed money...it's getting paid back soon, right?

Anyone can live large off of borrowed money...for a short time. It's the later consequences that sensible people are worried about.

I would not argue that the stimulus package did not have some effect. I also will point out that a lot of pent up demand being released in the marketplace from people that simply sat on cash out of fear has had a major effect. People save during these periods and then they eventually spend those savings when they feel more comfortable or simply have saved enough to splurge.

Why do you assume it has to be paid back?

If anyone's worried it's the rich who know that if we ever decide to pay it back they'll be the ones asked to do so.

Quick question: If we borrow money at a fixed 1% interest rate, when if ever should we pay it back?

Let me borrow 5k at 1% and we'll see if you want your money back...

But in the meantime more and more people were losing their jobs, killing demand even further, so by the time confidence rose it might be years later because we just slogged through another great depression. The stimulus was necessary to halt the decline dude. And a lot of people weren't "sitting" on cash; it had dried up as the value of their homes plummeted.

Nonresponsive. 1% interest rate, should we pay it back?

Well then it's official, you're an idiot, if for no other reason than it's not keeping pace with inflation and we can easily lend that same money out at higher rates.

Even of you take that money and loan it to other people at a higher rate of return aren't you still "paying it back"? I'll answer...yes you're still paying it back.

I realize this is a really oversimplified question....

Where exactly are we going to get the money to lend exactly?

From China...

Here is another question.

Is it even possible to pay back 16 TRILLION DOLLARS?

Can you imagine that conversation...

Ok Sir, your loan amount is 16 Trillion dollars, financed over 360 months, at a rate of 1% and your payment is....no idea.

My calculator doesn't go that high...
