By the fact that there is not much to do in Muncie, perhaps it's wild, bawdy, lewd, lascivious, and gluttonous sex on the streets. I will leave immediately to check it out and report back to all of you.

Great stat. Thanks. Now if only the media, high school students and their parents would believe this. I am sick and tired of defending NIU as a safe place. NIU is still losing outstanding students because of the perception it is an unsafe place.

I'm sure the next excuse would be, yea, the campus is safe but the town surrounding it, DeKalb, isn't. We would need crime figures for that too.

What am I missing? A quick online search doesn't indicate DeKalb being a dangerous area.

Nasty stereotypes?

It’s because every single murder and shooting with an injury that happens in DeKalb is pointed out by the Chicago media.

ISU/UofI doesn’t get the same focus because they are outside of the Chicago TV viewing area. Same goes for WIU, EIU & SIU.

Unfortunately NU & UIC somehow ($?) are keeping the media quiet to most of the things that happens ON their campus.

You have to give Cincinnati a break the school is right in the middle of the city. The dorms look like high rise condos. But what is great about the school the new stadium is the center of campus.

Many here blame the "media" but it is far more sinister that that.

For murders and crime reporting, we are part of the Chicago area. For football and basketball, we are out of the area. F_ck the Chicago media.

nope...
A few days after the last shooting/murder that happened the day before Thanksgiving there was a shooting on the UIC campus parking garage the very next day. Yet the NIU shooting got more news than this did.

http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2011-...ark-rosati

There were also series of violent crimes (rapes and mugging) that were happening very near the NU campus. The news reports always said the neighborhood and did not say something like (just off Northwesters campus) as they did with our story.

I look at it this way; since NIU is larger, more prestigious and more nationally known than UIC, we garner more attention.

/silver lining.

Not entirely true. A major part of the UIC campus is the College of Medicine and the Medical Center. It is THE college of medicine for the U of I. UIC is home to the largest public college of medicine in the nation. Where the shooting occurred was in a parking garge less than a half-block from the entrance to the UIC Hospital.

Wow imagine that another sarcastic put down from Brad.

No, I am not saying it is a conspiracy against NIU. It just seems rather convenient for NU and UIC that major sorties like these seem to not be connected to those Universities by the Chicago media like any NIU stories.
