Thoughts from today's Practice
Overall, the Defense dominated as you would expect this early. They stripped the ball several times. I do think our Offense will be good; we have quality skill position players. It all depends on the progress of the O-Line.

O-Line - As might be expected, the O-Line was up and down today. Lot of false starts. They did start to open up a few holes for the RBs, but struggled in pass protection. Hopefully, we get Jared Volk back in August.

QBs - Lynch was very solid throwing the ball for this early in spring ball. Made some great throws into some small windows. McIntosh was steady and seemed confident running the offense.

RBs - Daniels and Settle looked good. Daniels is now wearing #3. Womble fumbled twice that I saw; not a good thing considering he's had trouble hanging on to the ball in the past. Bowers didn't get as many carries, but showed good balance and strength. He could be a load at 5-8, 218. VERY strange to see Stingily as a RB! He is big; hopefully he can learn the position quickly.

WRs - As we all know, we are LOADED at WR! TLL made a great catch in the corner of the endzone on red zone drills. Need to get the ball in his hands more. Brescacin also made a nice catch. Very cool to see Frisman Jackson coaching the WRs! Easy to see that he knows his stuff. When one of our wideouts (no need to mention his name) dropped one, Fris said, "No excuses, just catch the damn ball!"

D-Line - This is gonna be an area of strength for this team. We've got a lot of guys that can get it done! Baxter looked very good; his outside rush is outstanding. Surprised to see they still list him at 240; he looks bigger to me. The DTs collapsed the pocket well on pass rushes. Anthony Wells was dinged up and didn't play, hopefully it's nothing major.

LBs - Very solid, as you would expect. Butler and Clark are gonna have huge years. Bass and Santacaterina were splitting reps at the other Outside Linebacker position.

DBs - Our starting four are damn good. Only concern is depth. Wondering what the deal is with Tommy Davis? Supposedly, he wasn't on the roster, but there was a #20 playing DB that sure looked like him.

Special Teams - Neir's punting was up and down. TLL was returning punts; I'd like to see him return punts as well as KOs.

OT signees Lavon Myers and Josh Ruka came down from Wisconsin to watch today. Those are two big dudes! There were a lot of recruits in attendance. Great thing to see!

Nice report, nicely done.

Great to read good things about Lynch. Can't wait to seem him get his chance to succeed.

Can't wait until Spring Game.

RE: Thoughts from today's Practice
Thanks hb. Great summary.

-I think the keys to the car are Womble's unless he fumbles instead of rumbles. Not a good start.

-Love TLL but would like someone more experienced back there when the ball is coming down and you've got somebody bearing down on you. Ashford was back there for a few last year. I'd like Akeem back there too.

-Notice anything with Frank the Tank?

Yeah, I do tend to forget that the #1 requirement for a punt returner is that you gotta catch the ball. And Ashford was very reliable for us last year. It's hard not to get excited about TLL as a gamebreaker though. Man, is he fun to watch!

Frank the Tank was working hard today which is good to see. I watched D-Line drills before the scrimmage and Ryan Nielsen was praising Boenzi's effort. I love Nielsen as a coach; he yelled at (name withheld) who wasn't very physical in the 1 on 2 drill, "Could you be anymore SOFT?" lol

RE: Thoughts from today's Practice
Huskiebob, thanks for the great report. If our D tackles can get some push I believe Baxter will have a monster year in the pass rush. He really had it going at the end of last year. Today's practice report from the Huskiewire says the 2nd team offense struggled and I expect that will be the case this spring. Our D line is deep and talented and our second team O line is very young, not a good matchup. Interesting potential Tommy Davis sighting, he would help the depth at safety if he is in fact on the team.

Where did you go to view the practice? I stopped by around 1 and saw no one in the west stands, tried to enter but all the gates I came to on the inside were closed/locked.

You can always get in thru the Yordon Center. The gate between the West Grandstand and the YC was also open today (it usually is).

Normally one of the middle doors is open on the West side. I haven't had any trouble getting in when I've gone.

Great report bob. Did you notice if Melvin was still wearing a knee brace?

Don't remember Melvin wearing a brace, but I can't say for sure.

I feel like I should know this but....

Is the offense going to be "no-huddle" again?
