RE: Is South Alabama Provisional Or Reclassifing ?
Not to turn this into a realignment thread but...

Interesting bit from the article:
Quote:As of today, the Roadrunners have yet to “enter” the process of reclassifying, according to the N.C.A.A. The university has until June 1 to do so, meaning there’s a bit of a time crunch, but going through the process is a mere formality for the university.

In an article posted earlier Benson stated:
Quote:As for UTSA and any other school that could be eyeing the Sunbelt, Benson did give an idea of when things could possibly unfold, "June first is a realistic date to have the plan executed."

So it looks like that if UTSA decides to make the transition they have to let the NCAA know by June 1st and that is when Benson says that is the "realistic date to have a plan executed."

sorry to turn this into a realignment post but I just found that interesting.

RE: Is South Alabama Provisional Or Reclassifing ?
We've been told that we are considered provisional. Perhaps reclassifying is a term used by schools that have had a real stop at FCS and have not always been on an FBS track.
USA counts as an FBS win or loss for our opponents this year and our scholarship allotment is up to 85. The only difference between USA and any other FBS program is that the Jags are not eligible for a conference title or postseason berth.

UTSA has already "decided" to reclassify or "make the transition", but their reclassification period doesn't start until June 1st. They decided to reclassify 2 years ago when they accepted an invitation to join the WAC in 2010.
