I wouldn't call 5 years of NIT "very good" at any major conference school.

It is when you take over a program with very little history, where it is hard to recruit, with little talent base in the area, you battle injuries every year, and most striking the program was 17-47 in conference the 4 years prior to his arrival.

As people point out, its not a program set up to succeed given its geography, facilities, etc. He hasn't been great but he certainly hasn't been bad. Not sure how people could be ready for him to go when he's outperformed thier somewhat miserable history and the prior recent coaches there, but then again that's just looking at things like his actual record.

They went to several NCAA tourneys in the late 90s and early 2000s. That kid Justin Reed was a good player. I think they've been to the Sweet 16 more recently than UC.

AK has brought some talent down there. Oxford's a cool town. The SEC has been relatively easy, yet they're under .500 in the league under him. And they always have these crazy blowout losses to bad teams. I really thought he would do a lot better.

Ole Miss in NCAA Tournament

NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen
2001
NCAA Tournament Round of 32
1999, 2001
NCAA Tournament appearances
1981, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002

Kennedy did win SEC COY in 2007. And he took them to the final four of the NIT in 2008.

FWIW

Their recruiting has been far from elite but he's landed 5 top 100 kids and a couple top 150 guys since he has been there. Just finished his sixth year, has finished above .500 in SEC play one time, and he hasn't improved from his first season.

Always respect your opinion but you are being very generous in your assessment of Kennedy.

Funny how some want to give Kennedy a lot of credit for making the worst of a bad situation yet here in Cincinnati our coach doesn't get anywhere near the recognition he deserves for the massive ressurection from the dead of this program.

Not sure what you are talking about. I'm absolutely thrilled with the job Cronin is doing right now with the UC basketball program. All the credit in the world. Most people I talk to have nothing but positive things to say about Cronin these days.

I think Kennedy has done a very good job, I think cronin is doing an EXCELLENT job. Big difference.

? you mean posters or the local media. Mick has gotten plenty of kudos from the media and the majority of the posters here.

Many were slow to accept that Mick is doing a good job. Many are also slow to realize no one really thinks that anymore.

RealDeal- BTW this is not a Mick vs. AK thread. We can talk about AK and Martin and still value Cronin.

Spoiler alert. Not long until this devolves into a Cronin v Huggs thread.

RE: Ole Miss, K State, UC
I have no idea about his coaching abilities, but I can tell you that Kennedy has a recruit rich environment.

Devonta Pollard, Twymond Howard and Gavin Ware are all considered 2012 top 100 prospects from MS, and Ole Miss failed to sign them.

This year is not a fluke, as long as I can remember, Mississippi has yearly produced top prospects.

Martin has done a great job in light of the fact that UKan (edit: or is it KU?) absolutely rules the area. Bjunk will confirm that fact. He must like it there, or he is waiting for a job to open.

I'm not going to keep beating a dead horse but the title of the thread is Ole Miss, K State, and UC so I think a comparison on how the coaches are perceived is warranted. IMO Mick is more respected outside Cincinnati than he is here. I know some of the people I talk to still feel like Mick should be doing more, if you guys don't run across people like that then good for you.

That is probably true and often the case just about everywhere. Folks rarely appreciate what they have in your own backyard.

There were about three such guys remaining on this board, but I don't even see them anymore. Too bad Real Deal runs into such folks.

Weren't you upset with going to the NIT in Cronin's 4th year? AK does it in year 6 in a weak SEC and he's doing a very good job? OK . . .
