Hmmm. Let's see.

[quote='BeerCat' pid='7680100' dateline='1331668520']
Translated means: Hell yes it matters.

Statement by you. Not a question to me or anyone else.

Quote:So Chatter you're saying he is only pretending to be a christian to get votes. Well no ****, he is after all a politician.

You basically are telling me what YOU THINK my statement meant. Then threw in a duh comment to back up your opinion of what my opinion is. Hmmm.

Quote:One more time, when politician is no longer a career, then this country may head in the right direction. Until then, Democrat Republican, doesn't really matter, they are only going to do what it takes to get re-elected. They won't do what needs to be done until it is waaaay to late.

"One more time......". Seems you've covered this ground before. Another statement by you. No questions to me or anyone else.

Quote:Chatter, if you would like to talk hypocrites, stop claiming to defend the Constitution and then **** all over it by condemning our president for possibly not being christian.

Another statement telling me what I should do. No questions.

Quote:Excuse me for mistaking this discussion board for a discussion board. And thank you for not even attempting to comment on my points.

What's there to discuss. You basically told us how it is. And you've done it before ("One more time.....").

1. I don't think Obama is a Christian based on my comments above somewhere in this thread. They are my opinion. I'm not looking to debate this. I could give a crap what certain people on this board think.

2. Obama has acted like a King and runs this country like a monarchy since becoming prez. He has no respect for the rules and treats his authority like it's got no limits.

Those are my opinions. I'm so anxiously looking forward to your "statements" telling me "how it is". 03-nerner

Agreed, but this is hardly a surprise. The Bible Belt will always vote for the "most Christian" candidate, even at the peril of their own party. A shock would have been if they did anything but this.

Is that a problem?

Perhaps they vote for the candidate who most closely reflects their ethical, moral, political, etc. beliefs.

Of course it isn't a surprise, but it makes me want to bang my head against a wall. If you're #1 goal is the win back the White House and you feel that Mitt Romney is the most (read: only) capable one of winning, don't go to the polls and vote for a social conservative. It's painful to watch social conservatives attempt to throw this election away before it starts.

If anybody wants to start a political party where economic issues reign supreme and social/wedge issues are pretty much ignored, I'm down.

I don't even know what the most christian candidate means? How many denominations of christian churches are there? Santorum is Catholic and that denomination isn't strong in SEC country. Maybe some voters down there feel more comfortable with him culturally. It isn't as though Santorum dominated,
Alabama Miss.
Santorum 35% 33%
Romney 29% 30%
Newt 29% 31%

Newt did pretty well and he is the guy with the open marriage and divorce issues. Santorum and Romney by all accounts are rock solid family guys.

Romney won Tuesday delegate haul
By Lynn Sweet on March 14, 2012 8:23 AM | No Comments

WASHINGTON--While Rick Santorum gets his props for winning the popular votes in Alabama and Mississippi, Mitt Romney won more delegates in the four Tuesday contests than any of his rivals.

After Tuesday votes in Mississippi, Alabama, Hawaii and American Samoa:
DELEGATES WON
41 Romney
35 Santorum
24 Gingrich
1 Paul

I agree that the social issues should take a back seat. Roe vs. Wade isn't going to be overturned anytime soon. The only time social issues come into play in my thinking is when the sitting president is poised to appoint new Judges, etc......where it could affect social and legal outcomes for years to come.........that's where my conservatism on social issues comes in.

But when it comes to electing a president, I'm all about the economy and the safety of this country.

And also, it's more about what OUCHfan stated above......
Quote: "vote for the candidate who most closely reflects their ethical, moral, political, etc. beliefs."

Well said, by the way.

The problem I can see is that using religion can be very easily exploited. Someone can easily snow voters and make them believe this simply by claiming a religion.

Just read an article where only 54% of Mississippi voters felt interracial marriage should be legal and 29% were in favor of making interracial marriage illegal. There is just a huge percentage of backwards ass people in that state.

Flea, surely you don't believe every poll out there do you? You are aware the poll was conducted by a Democrat firm? Regarding the other poll you read about, who did the poll, what are the exact questions that were asked?

There is no problem as long as you're ok with 4 more years of Obama. I for one am not. I want a candidate who can beat him. Santorum cannot.

As far as "most Christian", I think you know what I mean. Those who bang the bible. Mentioning God and Christian values at every other sentence.

To Coop's point, these people are self defeating. They would much rather see Romney, or any repub, in office and not Obama. They're just too blind to see that the only one with a chance to beat Obama is Romney. A vote for anyone else in the repub primaries is a vote for Obama.

Considering that Alabama didn't amend the anti-miscegenation laws in their state constitution until 2000, despite the SCOTUS decision of Loving vs. Virginia occurring way back in 1967, I would think those poll numbers are unfortunately pretty accurate.

Again where is Subflea's link to the poll, who did the poll, what where questions? Are we all aware that how Ohio funds school systems is illegal and has been for 15-20 years? How backwards are we? How many states have laws, that are not enforced nor obeyed, that have never been changed, that are still on the books that seem strange? Probably every state.

Since we are all dancing around the topic............is it possible that just as many or more blacks in Miss. or Alabama think interracial marriage is stupid or should be banned. Is that possible also. Would that make those people backwards or is it only White people?

With regard to the original poll, of course it's a pile of crap. It was commissioned by Public Policy Polling, a liberal outfit which specializes in cooking up polls for places like the ultra-liberal Daily Koz. Despite the glee with which it was reported on MSNBC, even (MS)NBC's Chuck Todd dismisses it to fellow lib Matt Lauer:

Quote:MATT LAUER: And Chuck, real quickly, this story that a lot of people are talking about, this Public Policy Polling, these surveys done in Alabama and Mississippi that seem to indicate in Alabama 45% of people think Barack Obama is Muslim, 52% in Mississippi. You're not so sure on these numbers. You don't like this survey.

CHUCK TODD: Well, there's a couple of things. One, it's an automatic – it's a robo-survey, so you get an auto phone call and you press a button to answer the question, one if he's a Christian, two if he's a Muslim. But you introduce it – the way the question was asked, I think it just was designed to get a higher number. Because there are some Republicans who may not believe the President – who may believe the President is a – may not believe he's a Muslim, but like saying it because it's a way to attack him. It's sort of a way to needle him.

So, I think this question was designed to get a higher percentage in the answer than maybe what's actually true. And it's certainly created a buzz among liberals who are trying to create a stereotype among base conservative voters.

LAUER: Alright, Chuck Todd in Washington this morning. Chuck, thanks very much, as always.

TODD: You got it.

FWIW, I found that Alabama amended it's anti-miscegenation laws on the basis of a ballot initiative in 2000 which passed with 59% of the vote. That seems to roughly jive with Sub's numbers of approval for interracial marriage.

Ohio is still funding school systems illegally. Wonder when that will be resolved? Man o man Ohio is so ******* backwards and illegal.

That almost sounds worse. Intentionally falsifing data? The propaganda is alive and well.
