I also find it interesting that Toledo is the only MAC West team playing in the postseason. The other five MAC teams in the postseason are all from the East Division.
Any team that ponies up the money can host. UB chose not to do it last year and they were late into the tournament this season (filled in for UNI who got what should have been our NIT slot
As to the selection... Every MAC team with a winning record is playing in a post season tournament. It would have been great if we at least got two NIT bids but lets all just do some damage like we did last season.

You're right about the money. Toledo dished out the money to get all home games for the Rocket women in the WNIT last year too, and the University did make money off of it.
I find it interesting though, because to me it shows that Toledo is trying to show other conferences they are serious about their athletics. The other schools are using that same MAC-mentality of keeping the status quo.
Toledo may never get a good opportunity for another conference, but they are not content with the status quo. If more schools in the MAC felt that way, the MAC could be so much bigger and better.

Kent is playing USC (So. Carolina) Upstate in the CIT. I travel to SC on business all the time and didn't know that USC's regional campus fielded a DI basketball team!

I disagree. Toledo probably sees this as an opportunity for more work for their young team, much like playing in a bowl game. Great for Toledo and a wise investment in their team's future. However, I seriously doubt that other conferences really care about teams playing in the CIT. A better way to impress others is to win and significantly increase your athletic budget (coaches salaries, etc.).

The biggest benefit of these tournaments are the experience for the younger players. Personally while I would *like* UB to buy a home game this team needs to work on its performance away from Alumni Arena.
I'm not saying Toledo is not serious but to use buying home games in an also ran tournament as a sign you're "happy" with the satus quo is a bridge too far.

What??? Wouldn't it be the opposite, if you were trying to make a certain point?

It's not about it being a 3rd rate tournament and whether conferences care about what happens with the CIT or even CBI, and quite frankly most fans don't understand the particulars of conference moves.....as evidence from the posts we see on here all the time.
