I urge y'all to pick up ODU or Charlotte.

OK, but we're not gonna bring them up to speed and then hand them off to join up with ECU. Would have to be a high exit fee and/or signing over some TV rights.

I like Charlotte a lot.

They would be a project for the MAC for football but the MAC has a track record of taking in project football schools (Kent State, Buffalo, Temple, UMass) so it not out of the character of the conference to take a gamble on a football member if they like the potential.

Charlotte is also only a 4-5 hour drive from JMU and Ohio giving them a couple built in rivals. For the other schools in the MAC Charlotte is an easy destination to fly to and is a major airline hub.

Charolette was kicked out off CUSA because they did not have Football with St. Louis. The Alliance will take the 49ers back and no need to think about the MAC. This leaves App ST with the Sun Belt. ODU probably has their sights on the Alliance as well. This leaves JMU as the serious candidate from the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Steve, who fits better - The Dukes or The Hens? Either from a UMass perspective or from what you have learned from the MAC?

ECU may block Charlotte's return and also the fact that the 49ers haven't played a down of football yet will hurt them.

That's why the ECU fan wants us to bring them up to speed first, then they try to take them away.

From seeing MAC posts, both would fit. However JMU is closer to the MAC foot print. UMass perspective is UD, there was a majority of fans wanted them over Richmond. There are very few public schools left in the A10 and the list is getting shorter.

Than I'd offer both JMU and Delaware to come in for all-sports and let them know that both have been offered. First one to accept becomes the 14th member. The other's invitation is then voided. Than sit tight at 14 as its a good number and see how the rest plays out. And if neither are interested than that's fine too.

Yeah ECU fans are to say the least displeased about the idea of being in a FB league with Charlotte. Our administration may be ok with the idea, but 95% of our fan base is not.
