I wish them the best, and hope we can continue an athletic relationship.

UNO to remain Division I school
http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/...division-i

Quote:NEW ORLEANS -- University of New Orleans president Peter Fos says the school will halt its transition to NCAA Division II status and instead remain in Division I.

Fos said Thursday that remaining at the highest level of college sports will help the New Orleans metropolitan area's main public university attract more students and boost community involvement.

While UNO was part of the LSU system, budget crunches after Hurricane Katrina led to debatable decisions by former school officials to pursue a lower level of athletic competition as a means to save money, and in 2010 UNO withdrew from the Division I Sun Belt Conference.

However, UNO has since moved to the University of Louisiana system and installed new leadership, including Fos, who pledges to give UNO student-athletes the resources they need to succeed.

You think Benson would try and get them back as a non-Football school to balance out UALR?

I would like that. UNO has always been a good SBC contender in most sports

It doesn't really balance UALR when they both fit geographically with the Western division teams. It could work, but I'd rather see a team more centrally located for the East. What time that is, I have no clue.

They need to stick with the GSC or division III. They haven't recovered from Hurricane Katrina yet and why waste money on division I athletics?

I wonder if this will stop the plans for a football team? They were supposed to compete in GSC. Can you have D1 sports and a D2 football squad?

Why trash the SBC?

"In addition, people in New Orleans simply have no attraction to or interest in most Sun Belt schools, regardless of whether they are good or not."

RE: Welcom back, old friend?
I'm inclined to say no. They were once a great program but thier budgetary limitations will always make it difficult to compete. They will continue to lose non conference games and therefore continue to hurt the Sun Belt.

RE: Welcom back, old friend?
Since they've changed systems, I could see them competing in the SBC again. I'd vote for them to return.
