RE: How To Pad Attendance Numbers
There is a bit of a difference between buy a bucket of chicken and we'll throw in four tickets and giving away $10,000 or a deer stand or a car to ONE fan in attendance. I think everyone does understand that distinction.

I would also say that by now, pretty much everyone who has interest in college football in Jonesboro, Lafayette, or Bowling Green has been inside the local college football stadium at least once. They may not have returned in several years but they know the team exists they just may not be a fan or much of one. UTSA faced a very different scenario where people need to learn there is UTSA football and even if they were aware of it, need to have some experience with it.

I would be having a fit if Arkansas State had a deal where if you upgrade to the combo you get fries and a ticket in football. We don't need people to come kick the tires, we need the tire kickers to come back because we've made a committment and need a committment from them (ie. pay for admission).

But isn't that the point? To get people in the door, and hope that 20%, 30%, whatever % get hooked, decide to come back, and hopefully, eventually buy season tickets? At least, that's the way I view it.

Did KFC ultimately pay UTSA for the tickets? Did UTSA actually give away tickets?

Nope, $20.00 is the price of the 10 piece bucket.

Right. So do you know how much money KFC paid UTSA to run this promotion? It was KFC giving away the tickets and not UTSA, right? Are you saying KFC didn't pay UTSA anything?

Bottom line is there is some Texas size hating going on in this thread. Free tickets or not the amount of people that came to the games was plain impressive. Even if tickets were only 10$ per person if UTSA fielded a top 25 team they would easily average over 30-50k and probably compete with UNT, Houston, SMU, and TCU in that aspect.

Yes, they used gimmicks, but people still came out (including myself). Alumni are going to be interested no matter what, but UTSA was trying to become the team of the city. Year one was about building a brand for the future. They got 56000 to come out for the first game and see that San Antonio could have 'big time' football. The lots were filled with tailgaters, live music, and the full specticle of college football. If you sell people one or two great experiences they are more likely to come back.

If 5000 people had shown up, the tshirt fans would have shrugged their shoulders and called it Pop Warner and never returned.

I stand by what UTSA did. I would welcome freeloaders over empty seats any dy of the week, especially if tht gets them to come back in the future

KFC, Taco Bell, and other chains were Marketing the program for them and gave them publicity on every corner in the city.
Their attendance was legit.

Why would they ? It's a win, win for both. uTSA gets tickets out and KFC is giving a "freebie" with a purchase. KFC didn't give UTSA a thing.

Trojan, you wouldn't know a bottom line if you saw it.

RE: How To Pad Attendance Numbers
Attendance is confusing and often misconstrued. I watched an Eastern Michigan game earlier this year. Their stadium, Rynearson Stadium, holds 30,000. The game I watched - one side was completely filled and the other appeared about halfway filled. I'd have estimated 20,000 people were there. The reported attendance was 6,500. Underreporting isn't good, neither is overreporting. Somehow gotta find the true number.

RE: How To Pad Attendance Numbers
MG61,

Sorry to admit it, but everyone on this thread thinks your a little butt hurt over UTSA. Heck, if most Non AQ teams gave out free tickets our attendance probably wouldn't even average 30k and it goes to show with the right coach little UTSA could be one of the big boys in Texas. Just look at their 2013 schedule with Oklahoma St, Rice, and Houston going to UTSA. With those three on the schedule AT HOME no way the even drop to lower than 40k attendance in 2013.

So you can keep on with your petty hating but they seem like a homerun for a Texas expansion. And I didn't even bother to read anything on a TxSt board if itls concerning UTSA that's like going to a South board and asking if Troy is more cool.

True, but it's usually teams with big stadiums who tend to try and over report attendance. A lot of teams are guilty of having businesses buy tons of tickets as a donation.

Don't waste good 'hate' on those Texas schools, when Loser Tech is still lurking around. Pull together, in the same direction!

The only "hate" here is a figment of TrojanCampaign's imagination.

03-lmfao And not a thread about "How to pad attendance" directed towards future competition.

I never claimed to be an expert of anything but I'm entitled to an opinion.

You have a habit of spouting accusations with your so-called "opinions".
