I'd prefer to see the Gas Act stand on its own and have all vote on it, so their votes are on record.
This seems to be another case of crony capitalism on the surface. Most Americans are unaware of this legislation.

Quote:Known on Capitol Hill as the “Nat Gas Act,” the proposal will extend federal tax credits for the purchase and operation of natural gas-powered vehicles; provide subsidies for the manufacture of natural gas engines, the establishment of a national system of privately held natural gas storage facilities and refueling stations. The legislation would also facilitate the migration of government-owned vehicle fleets to natural gas use.
This proposal will benefit a number of uber wealthy individuals, including one George Soros, who reportedly owns 6.6 percent of Westport Innovations, a Vancouver, British Columbia-based natural gas engine distributor and manufacturer.
While I am not opposed to the building up of infrastructure for conversion of fleets to natural gas, once again we see certain 'politically well connected funders of Obama' poised to benefit from taxpayer money.
Instead of sneaking it into another bill, they should have some cohones and allow it to stand or fall on its own and for reasons of transparency, have a full and public debate on the merits.
Soros, others set to cash in on Nat Gas Act windfall
I believe that Natural Gas will do just fine without subsidies. In fact, I would be fine if we eliminated all subsidies to energy companies, whether they are fossil fuels or alternative energy. Same with agricultural subsidies. That's just me, though.
