Five games to watch this season in Sun Belt Conference
Five games to watch this season in Sun Belt Conference

American Football, Sun Belt, college football — posted by matt murschel on March, 7 2012 6:00 AM

The Sun Belt Conference had a banner year in 2011 with three teams – Arkansas State, Louisiana-Lafayette and Florida International – all participating in postseason bowl games.

It could have also made the argument to send a fourth team in Western Kentucky.

The Hilltoppers finished 7-5 including an impressive 7-1 conference record but found themselves on the outside looking in when the bowl lineups were announced.

Thanks to the addition of South Alabama, the league will become a 10-team conference when play starts in 2012.

Here are five games to keep an eye on this season:

Western Kentucky at Arkansas State, Sept. 29

FIU at Florida Atlantic, Nov. 16 02-13-banana Also on ESPNU, Friday Night

Buzz: For the first time since the program’s inception, Howard Schnellenberger will not be in charge of the Florida Atlantic football. Instead, Carl Pelini will start his first head coaching experience as the new man in charge of the Owls program. FAU has fallen on some hard times after winning seven games in 2008. Since then, the Owls have won five (2009), four (2010) and one game last season. One way that Pelini can get the program back on track is a win against in-state rival FIU.

wow, the mention of Troy @ South was really negative toward us. Said we sucked last year, which we did, but didn't bother to mention that we have been the best program in the Conference over the past 6 years.

Everyone here is really looking forward to it and we hope to break 30k. I just hope we're competitive to give the fans of both teams a good game.

I see the game having at least 30k in attendance. We brought a HUGE crowd to UAB in 2010 and we also had a HUGE crowd for the 2010 GMAC Bowl. So I see no reason why TROY won't fill the visitors side. The Sound of the South will more than likely make the trip as well. 04-rock

People have short memories, it's more of "what have you done for me lately"? UNT won four straight SBC titles and went to four straight New Orleans Bowls, now look at us.
