It'll be interesting to see if that means that a team would join for the western division.

Unlikely. The MAC has been operating with 13 teams since '07 and has a good blueprint for doing so. I am not aware of any Great Lakes area FCS teams that would be available to move up soon. UMass has the option to back out of joining the MAC as well, but given their deal with Gillette Stadium, I doubt they will. The MAC will be fine.
