Indeed a sad day. One of the most recognizable coaches ever in the MAC

A strange way to deliver the news, if you saw the press conference. Sort of funny the way he said, "I'm going to disobey what my doctor says and go have a glass of red wine". I don't think he ever thought he was coming back after this season. Great career, I hope he has that glass of red wine.

MAC coaching legend. He will be missed. He had a great career at CMU and Miami in the MAC. He left his mark on the MAC and earned the respect of fans of every MAC school. A class act. The epic post game interview vs Kentucky was one for the ages. "How that one got away?" "You guys the Big Blue" "Where you from....Lexington" "OH MY LORD"......"Ask John why that was so close" classic Coles.

Charlies was great and well liked in Huntington. He would always interact with the crowd. Sad day for sure. My best to him in his retirement.

It tells you something when fans of all other MAC schools respect you. Coach Coles will be missed, hope retirement finds him well.

Sad.

My all-time favorite visiting coach, a true class act and Miami has huge shoes to fill. My hat is off to Charlie and I wish him all the best in whatever he decides to do in retirement.

Coach Coles is an icon. All the best to him in retirement. Deserves to be in the Hall of Fame as a Coach.

Nothing but respect for Charlie Coles. It's a shame to see him go.

Just like unpretentious Charlie. Doesn't try to grand-stand his way out with a final goodbye tour. He would have gotten a standing-ovation at CMU, had he chosen to do so. His son, Chris, played and graduated from CMU. Take a look at his half-court miracle shot when he played for Saginaw Buena Vista High School in the state tournament (youtube). We'll miss you Charlie, and I know you still have that Maroon & Gold necktie!
Charlie also brought Thunder Dan to CMU. I only wished he had played with Roundfield (the Dan & Dan Show). Oh, what the hell, through Dan- The-Man LeFevour in as well!

I know a lot of Herd fans do not like Miami, (duh) and vice versa, (duh-duh) but we always respected Coach Coles, and enjoyed it when he brought his well coached teams into town.
