Top Schools at Recruiting the State of Ohio
Toledo joins four Big Ten schools listed by Rivals.com Ohio analyst Marc Givler as top schools at recruiting the state of Ohio.

Nice write up. Coach C and staff can certainly hold their own with the big boys in getting the right fit in looking for future Rockets. UT certainly has the academic offerings for those looking for the books and facilities for those looking for other reasons to base their decisions on. Second to none in the MAC with facilities and Tops in academics with out a question.

RE: Top Schools at Recruiting the State of Ohio
i guess where we need to start is finally winning the MAC West and getting back to the championship game.

For me however those goals are too low because my respect for MAC football has dropped precipitously since 2003. Frankly the conference is pathetic and anything short of domination of the conference is a huge failure.

I want a team that siezes national attention and wins big games in the OOC en route to consistent rankings in the Top 25 and finally an undefeated season. And steamroll the MAC until the other members demand we leave because they can't compete.

Wow. Someone out there respects what Toledo has accomplished. Good - I agree with that.

The MAC has become a respectable conference in football. Toledo's 2011 football team would have dominated the MAC teams from prior years. The MAC has become much better top to bottom. Very few cupcakes in the league except teams that took a nose dive like Toledo a few years ago and this last year Akron and Buffalo. The entire MAC West except CMU was in contention until the last game of the year. Considering how good the top was (UT, NIU, WMU), that is pretty good.

Toledo is ripe for a Championship. Winning the OOC games this year is not only possible, but realistic. If the OL and DL are as good as I think they are going to be, Toledo could have a very interesting season.

Looking forward to it!

Go Rockets!!

Marc is a very nice young man. Had the chance to talk to him 5-6 times since about 2009. He has always put together good information by doing his homework and getting out there and seeing the recruits. Hope to see more writeups from him.

Seems they forgot Cincinnati. Cincy had ten 3 star recruits from Ohio last year according to Rivals (nine 3 star on Scout)...that would put them 3rd on the list behind Ohio State and Michigan. I guess Rivals is mad Cincinnati left the network for 247 and took hundreds of members.

I'm sure that's it because hundreds of members is not a drop in the bucket for them when they are getting tens of thousands of members from the top BCS sites they have.

I honestly don't know why Cincinnati was not on the list, but I know Marc and he would not exclude them because they moved their Rivals site to 247.

That was more tongue and cheek on my part...just found it curious that Cincinnati (ESPN #32 ranked class 2012, Scout #34, Rivals #50 and 247 #55...with most of those commits being from Ohio) was not included or even in the honorable mention category.

While Cincinnati is not a huge fish, here is the current online numbers for the 247 site (previously with Rivals)...Online now 286 Record: 2,633 (2/14/2012)

Regardless, awesome news for Toledo and since this is a Toledo site and I am both a Rocket and Bearcat, I'll leave the UC talk out of it from now on.

I'm just excited for the Miami game tonight...hopefully there is 3K+ for the game tonight. My wife and I will be there.

RE: Top Schools at Recruiting the State of Ohio
I'm not slamming Cincinnati at all. Just pointing out that I don't see a reason that Rivals.com would exclude them on purpose.

To be fair, the article was talking about who is hot in recruiting the state of Ohio right now. I don't know if Cincinnati has any Ohio commits yet for their 2013 class and I don't know how many of those 2012 signees from the state of Ohio committed to Cincy very early on. That might have made a difference. Also not sure how many total guys from Ohio that Cincy signed.

Two of the Ohio guys listed under Toledo section were very recent commits to Toledo. Davis committing to Toledo the night before signing day and Niswander committing last week as a 2013 class recruit. Toledo signed 16 guys from the state of Ohio in 2012 and as the article says they are off to a good start with a BCS caliber commit already in 2013 and two other Ohio guys that are seriously considering Toledo already for the 2013 class.
