The hardest part about Pitt's home schedule is for us fans to stay awake(minus VT). 03-banghead

I applaud Syracuse on that schedule.

And SU still may have to find another game (which would be a second FCS team because there aren't any more FBS teams with openings left) if Temple doesn't join next year.

Just a heads-up to you football fans upset about a mediocre football team joining the conference...this team might be decent-to-good and still have a mediocre record.

AFAIC, SU can add this to the list of grievances against the BE when the settlement is negotiated.

Its a real difficult schedule, especially for the 2012 Orange football team.
The AD at Syracuse seems to have the attitude of playing anybody anytime, anywhere. I've noticed this for a while. This is fine if you have a top notch program but when you are trying to re-build it is not exactly optimal. Anyways, I think the AD has a lot of friends in the B1G as he seems to schedule them the most.
I know in most years they try and schedule at least one game with a "Heavyweight" football program (i.e. - Southern Cal, Penn State, Notre Dame). Then they inter-mix them with decent programs.

Doc Gross doesn't have the Big 10 ties, Chancy Nancy does. She came from Illinois and was pushing for us to go big 10 instead of the ACC

It will be interesting to see what kind of changes he makes when you go from having 5 OOC games to 3 in the ACC.

SU always tries to play 10 BCS teams a season.

With a 9 game ACC schedule, we'll probably cut back to only 1 non-conference BCS game a year, although in 2013 we're playing both Penn State and Northwestern.

The OOC scheduling template for SU in the future looks like: 1 National King, 1 BCS or non-BCS team power rated around 35-75 and 1 Baby Seal

RE: SU FB schedule officially ridiculous
in reality the missouri game likely replaces the @west virginia we were scheduled to play and @ temple will be the last game added to fill out the schedule according to replorts that came out when the missou game was announced that said the bigeast has guaranteed a 7th game and no repeat opponents.

for this year i like playing the hardest games non conference since the bigeast looks to be another anyone can beat anybody and lose to anybody year with no clear dominant team.

I agree with the other posters that Dr Gross (AD) for Syracuse will most likely keep the tough schedules coming. I think a MAC team such as Akron or Miami (Oh) or Eastern or Western Michigan are good choices for the non-BCS team. They are in Syracuse's traditional recruiting area but I suspect that with the move to the ACC, Syracuse will likely try and play an old Big East team (Rutgers or Uconn instead of a MAC team) which are both in the prime recruiting areas for the Orange.

Syracuse recruits Ohio fairly well. Keeping MAC schools in the mix will help keep that alive. They probably will not be staple on the schedule, but expect to play Toledo and Akron at least twice each decade. I suspect that Syracuse schedules the Big East, at least from Louisville to the Northeast, I'm not sure Syracuse will be playing SMU and Houston anytime soon - as much as I would enjoy that.

What are the PROS / CONS of scheduling Rutgers, Temple & Cincinnati? Those seem like the areas you'd most want to recruit (as far as Big East teams go). BTW - 100% agree that (for Syracuse) scheduling MAC is a great idea.

SU already has an OOC AQ opponent for every year until 2021 (except 2018). The other two games SHOULD be FCS and MAC at home.

The cons are that none of these teams are that big a draw so fan support may not be too good. I think Rutgers, Temple and Cincinnati would be the best to play from a recruiting standpoint. UConn is a good rival in basketball but very few recruits come from Connecticut for the Orange. Of those teams mentioned, Rutgers would probably be the best to play because they are close to New York City so it would be good for the fans there. New Jersey is also a good state to recruit players from so that would be my first choice. The success of Syracuse in the 90's was a direct result of being able to get a lot of New Jersey's best players. Hopefully, this can be done again and Rutgers will collapse again. Ohio has been good for recruiting but mostly the north and east part of Ohio but playing Cincinnati would probably still be a good idea for recruiting.
I am wondering whether Syracuse will switch its recruiting somewhat now that it is joining the ACC. I think Syracuse is starting to recruit Georgia (mostly due to assistant coaching connections).

I would not be surprised if Penn State pops up again in 2018 and 2019.
Alternately a school like Michigan or Ohio State may be lined up with the Syracuse home game at Metlife Stadium (Meadowlands NJ). Both of these schools have a lot of fans in New York city so they would probably go for a deal like that.
