OVC Tournament
Have you seen the way the OVC does their conference tournament? The top 8 teams make the field, just like the A-Sun. However, the top two seeds get a bye automatically to the semifinals. All Murray State and Tn State has to do is win one game and they are in the finals.

The OVC Bracket

Has the OVC always done it this way?

While it seems like an advantage for the top 2 seeds, I'm not so sure if it actually is. While the top seeds are well rested they may be cold for not playing in a week and run into a team that is hot and on a roll.

Would you like to have the A-Sun tournament in this format or would you rather keep it the way it is?

I don't think I have ever seen one done this way for 8 teams.

RE: OVC Tournament
They changed the format for this year. They used to have the first round and the quarters on campus sites then move to neutral site for the semis.

I actually like that format. I think every eligible team should be in the conference tournament. Play the opening round at the higher seeded team's arena, then the top 8 move to the neutral site. I would actually play the quarterfinals on campus as well then move to the neutral site for 2 days.

With Belmont moving in I wouldn't be suprised if the OVC doesn't move to the Curb Center. Municipal is a HELL HOLE.

Calling Municipal a hellhole is an insult to hellholes. That place has been obsolete for probably 20 years now.

To nobody's great surprise, Murray State wins the tournament, but TSU kept the game close and nearly beat them again. If that program can build some momentum, the OVC is going to be very interesting next year.

RE: OVC Tournament
It's Murray's again. Look at their roster. Three seniors, the rest are juniors and freshman including that incredible point guard they've got. I think Murray State will run away with it again, with Belmont, Morehead, Peay, Tennessee Tech and TSU all being lumped in together, then the bottom feeders.
It actually will be a pretty good conference next year.

Was well worth viewing. Looked like Murray State was just cruising until they had to go to work at the end. Good crowd. OVC is a better place than the A-Suc long haul. Ask Belmont. Did you see the empty seats in Macon for the A-Suc final? Of all the conference tournaments so far, the A-Suc must lead in the number of empty seats for its final. The A-Suc will never develop much fan interest because, as you know, not enough schools will hang around long enough to build this conference into a internal competitive league. It will forever be stuck where it is - if it survives. Still can't believe ETSU is in this outfit and allowed its program to deteriorate. With Belmont gone, it's safe to predict that ETSU will not step into their place with the direction the program is headed. Again I ask, what is Dr. Noland going to do about ETSU athletics?

ASUN Fact:

Of the teams left in the conference after Belmont leaves, the last team to make the NCAA tournament besides ETSU, was Mercer in 1985.

RE: OVC Tournament
The ovc final had a good crowd because of geography and murray state is going through what etsu did in 92. The ovc tourney typically doesnt draw flies.

I enjoy reading the ETSU board for fun. It's fine to bash your own school, but leave the rest of us out of it! We are not the same and cannot be bunched together. Mercer attendance is on the rise big time, and the semi-final crowd was 300 over capacity. So you know the final would have been busting at the seams. The OVC got the dream final matchup to get the crowd. Much like Mercer/Belmont would have been. There's teams in the league on the rise, decline, and steady. There's not a constant decline across the board. It's not the A-SUN killing ETSU, it's ETSU killing itself!!!!

View the OVC as undesirable and SoCon as desirable. If anything for the nice I-AA football league and some better names. Right now ASUN isn't bad compared to them, though. We all wonder if Mercer has talks about conference affiliation. I hope so. They almost have to, but nothing interesting leaks out.

Your icon is a football helmet, so clearly you understand the importance of the sport. I think Mercer would be a very nice fit for the Socon and vice versa. Honestly though, I hope we can figure out how to get there before you guys do. As for the OVC, I can see why it isn't a natural fit for Mercer, but it would be for us with or without football.

You're right about that. There's a big difference in being in Tennessee versus Georgia. A geographic divider I really never crossed. I would love to know what our school's leaders talk about being closed doors.

Mercer as a scholarship program adds a very nice travel partner to Ga. Southern IF they stay FCS. If not, it could be a pair of KSU/Mercer going SoCon.
