Glad Storm got to have his last home game be a winner. Nixon is only a junior, right?

I love beating Toledo. It makes this season seem like a 8-win season instead of a 4-win season.

RE: NIU-Toledo
Wish I could've seen this one...we won this game using the only formula we can (right now) to win: rebound, limit turnovers, play D, and make a few shots.

We had SIX players score 8 or more points. We hit 16 of 19 free throws. We still didn't shoot a great percentage, but for us, 41% ain't bad. 11 offensive rebounds to 2 for Toledo. We only sent Toledo to the line 20 times. Great team win.

Berg did a nice job from 3, Bolin was solid yet again (8 rebounds, 4 assists, 4-6 from the field)....forget solid, he was just plain good.

Although the wins aren't exactly stacking up, the last couple of weeks have been encouraging....We're at least crawling now. The first step towards respectability is to get some MAC wins. We're competing in the MAC decently right now, even on the road.

I wish chazb2 were here to enjoy this...

Did Monty have a brain fart by not calling a timeout in the last 20 seconds when NIU had the ball and up three? NIU threw up a prayer just before the shot clock went off.

Nice call by Monty in the postgame talking about fouling with 3 to 2 seconds left on the clock when NIU was up by 3.

Toledo had absolutely no idea how to break that defense down. I think they settled for 25 foot 3 point attempts every time we ran that defense. Good call by the NIU coaching staff.

RE: NIU-Toledo
it was obvious that monty originally wanted a time out with 20 seconds left--he called berg over to the old hash mark, pointing to the floor and when berg got there it appeared he was going to call the TO...but then he apparently changed his mind: opting to save the TO (NIU had 2) and must have thought they could get a good shot with 16-20 sec left...not a bad call but the execution broke down. He might not have wanted Toledo to be able to use his TO to set up a three on the other end if NIU missed....

RE: NIU-Toledo
It was a fun night. I really enjoyed it. The crowd wasn't bad for a Wednesday weeknight, crappy weather, and a team coming in with just 3 wins. I didn't expect a large crowd. It was a very appreciative crowd, however, starting with the senior night recognition of Storm and continuing it through the several comebacks in the game and the final win. About as good of a home ending that this team could have had. The team could have let it get away a couple times in each half but kept fighting and making plays. Happy for Storm he played well and that he ended his Convocation Center playing days with a nice win. I thought it was cool how the players really seemed happy for him. That says a lot not only about him but also about the atmosphere within the program.

I agree 100% on the effectiveness of the 1-3-1. Toledo stalled out offensively in a big way. The Huskies did a good job in it. I was impressed with the determination and persistence of the Huskies and it paid off. Kudos to players and staff. Would love to see them at least challenge BSU this weekend, then find a way to win a game to get to Cleveland.

Monty said on the postgame show that he will be switching defenses more in our remaining games.

If we can play good defense, keep turnovers to a minimum and shoot 40% or better we will win games. We have had too many games shooting in the low 30s. gotta convert more.

That's the big problem; scoring. If we get better on the offensive end (which includes not turning it over leading to easy transition buckets) and keep rebounding and defending, we'll be able to compete regularly.

I see no reason why (if this bracket stays the same) that if we play like last night we have an honest chance at reaching the quarter finals.

Gotta like our chances, at least against EMU. But, if EMU beats Toledo and Ohio loses at Miami (both of which are very possible), EMU moves up to #4 and Ohio is #5. I don't think we match up nearly as well against Ohio.

Of course, as Monty said last night when we asked about the MAC Tournament matchups, the most important thing for us is to beat Ball State Saturday. Need that first road win!

I love the taste of Kool-aid, but guys, we haven't won one game away from the Convo this year...so if we win any games in the MAC tourney, it'd be a big accomplishment.

True. But, despite Chaz's thoughts, the team is getting better. We are much better than we were for most of the games played prior to the last couple of weeks. Look at the Miami game a couple weeks ago: MM said it was the best and most complete game they have played all year. Then vs. Toledo a couple nights ago we didn't have that segment of the game where we fell apart for 5 minutes or so and the other team made a run. Our young guys didn't make as many crucial youthful mistakes and they played better for longer periods of time. Plus, the emergence of Storm and Nixon playing well and having the experience the young guys needed has been a factor.

Do I think they are now going to make a run in the MAC tourney? Of course not. It would be tough to win at EMU. But do I think there is a better chance of them winning that first game than I did a few weeks ago, without a doubt I do. Especially if it is EMU. I don't feel as good if we end up playing at Bowling Green.

I wouldn't put money down that they can beat BSU, nor do they "need" to. But I think they need to play well on the road this weekend. They need to prove they can do some things away from the Convo.

Our chances are better than one in a million!

Also strangely enough I don't actually like Kool-aid, even as a kid.

That is strange. I thought all kids liked favored sugar water.
