The CBI and CIT
Here's a link to an article from the Richmond Times Dispatch that explains a lot about the CBI. I would assume the same kind of thinking goes on with the CIT.

The Richmond Spiders have had a very on and off season this year, after their run to the Sweet 16 last year. That Sweet 16 team graduated 4 starting seniors who accounted for almost 6,000 career points. This year's squad depends largely on the juniors, sophs, and freshmen to get things done. That's why they would fit into what the CBI is about. And since this article, they have gone 2-1 and are 15-15 going into the last regular season game tonight.

Anyway, this article gave me some perspective on possibly why UALR refused to participate in either of these tournaments a few years ago with a senior ladened team. And why maybe, just maybe, we might be willing to participate in one this year. We certainly would fit the profile of the type of team the CBI would be looking for. Hopefully, we make another magical run in the SBC Tourney like last year. But if not, I hope we will consider the CBI or the CIT.

CIT emphasizes midmajors so that may be a better shot. I find it hard to believe we'd be considered unless we lose in the final which would make us 17-16, still not great. The positives would be our divisional championship, relatively strong finish, and young team. I'd really love to play in one of those tournaments against teams we have a reasonable chance of beating. Going on the road wouldn't be a problem for this team.

What kind of team do you think would be in these tournaments that this year's version of the Trojans wouldn't have a reasonable chance of beating? This year's squad is pretty tough.

I agree. Other than our administration's possible lack of interest, I think our biggest hurdle is our RPI. Even these "pay" tournaments seem to look at that. I really haven't followed these tournaments all that closely, but do you get the impression that they are looking for intriguing matchups (ex. UALR vs. UAF- although I'm reasonably sure that will never happen) and teams that can draw big crowds at home?

To tell you the truth, I'm not worried about whether we will get invited or not. That will be completely out of our control when the time comes. I was just hoping that the administration might see the value of participating in one of these tournaments this year if we did get an invite.
