Instead they they do the complete opposite.
But aren't a lot of these coming out of these meetings kind of going in the right direction? From what I am hearing coming out of these, the FB schools seem to be doing things right and trying to right the ship - unlike FB schools at these meetings in the past, which helped to contribute to the current state of the BE.
Things like putting the CCG at the high seed division winner instead of in NYC at Yankee Stadium, marketing the hell out of FB much more than ever before, encouraging yearly divisional rivalries, etc.
All that seems like a conference that is finally getting it. Of course the presidents can throw around their weight ultimately. But just like in the past, that will be all on them, not the conference leadership. The presidents are the ones that set policy, not the commissioner's office.
You are correct...just that some like to be Debbie Downers at every turn.
Agree. I've followed the BE for a long time, as many know. Most, if not all, of the criticism of Tranghese, and then Marinatto, seemed well deserved. The BE seemed to be pulling itself in several different directions, and couldn't come to consensus on anything.
I'm convinced that Memphis and UCF were close to admission two years ago, a few weeks before TCU was invited, and they were blocked by football schools, NOT BB schools. Since it's water under the bridge now, the three schools that Memphis officials were told blocked us were Syracuse, Pitt and WVU. What a coincidence, huh? But I heard those names two years ago, long before we knew who was leaving.
I have no way to be certain about who blocked us, or if other names were involved. I only know we were blocked, but I heard the same 3 names from several contacts close to the UM prez and AD, as well as FedEx.
My real point is, those schools, who obviously were unhappy with the BE, are leaving, and starting with the expansion decisions, things seem to have been done differently around here.
Of course, the schools remaining from the 2005 BE aren't thrilled, but I think the BE did the best it could with moving forward, when many thought it would collapse again. Now we're back to getting a pretty good TV contract, if things settle down.
And the other things coming out of the meetings this week all seemed positive, and certainly focused on FB, and on the things that affect all members the most.
