Some of the UTSA fans belittle everyone not UTSA. These fans really give the others a bad name and insult Texas State any chance they get. It almost is as bad as the UNT boards opinion of Texas State.

Welcome aboard, Jaggernaut. I also hope Texas State become members of the Belt. If TSU joins the conference they will be a welcomed addition. I think Coach Fran will build a strong program as the Bobcat HC. I have liked him since his days at Bama. Too bad he left for A&M, but the Tide landed on their feet in a huge way. I do wish him the best in San Marcos. And btw, Go Jaguars, good luck in the BCS in 2012 and the future.

Can someone post a link to the WAC's home board? It is not located here on the bbs networks.

Check out this nonsense. 03-lmfao

Quote:Re: True or False .... Tech & Texas State to the Belt

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

false

1. their fans do not want it and they are very vocal about not wanting it

2. they will not make a move without knowing what CUSA and the MWC will do

3. why would they leave a conference to join another that might be losing several members especially when they hope they will be one of the ones picked for the MWC/CUSA

4. LaTech has been independent before and they are not scared of going that route again even if it is not the optimum

5. the sunbelt offers nothing to them that the WAC does not offer currently.....LaTech has shown they can get teams to play them in Ruston and especially Shreveport, they have dozens if not several dozen teams in easy driving distance that will be looking to games and LaTech will play anyone....there is little or no real TV money to lose from the WAC or sun belch.....LaTech can make most if not all of that playing others and replacing the WAC away games with OOC single season games...again they might not have the best home schedule and several games in Shreveport, but I think their fans would prefer that to having a gun to their head to join a potentially unstable sun belch...nothing says that the remainder of the WAC teams can't just agree to keep playing each other and park sports other sports elsewhere

6. Go ahead and take UTSA would be the easy answer right back.....and I think they will be a good member for several conferences, but taking them to spite another school and threatening a school with that is not a way to run a conference

7. LaTech has too many other things going on academically with the potential LSUS merger and or their talks about leaving the ULA system and joining the LSU system which had been discussed in the past to make a move now without having a clear outlook on what the belch will be in the future

8. Their fans are loath enough to join the belch now....if they were to panic and jump and then the belch lost teams and had to resort to eastern move ups their fans would riot and burn Ruston down plus the east football TV slots are full and over full as is recruiting potential and on and on...LaTech has inroads into Texas to recruit and they do not make their way recruiting into the east in full SEC, ACC, MAC, and Big east country...so playing move ups in the belt offers them nothing

9. Lets look at reality a conference down at the level of the belt and the WAC offers three things.....ease of schedule for football and NCAA bids for spare sports and bowl tie ins....currently there are almost more bowl games than there are bowl eligible teams so any team that wins 7+ games will get a bowl invite especially with the Independence Bowl as basically their home bowl....so the NEED for a conference bowl tie in is limited because there are bowls out there that would want a 7+ win LaTech and probably NEED them and the Independence Bowl loves them....and you do not have to split the money with anyone.....for the spare sport NCAA bids there are plenty of other conferences out there with and without football or with D1-AA football looking for teams even without football membership....again their fans might not like it, but it will not be forever and probably only a few years at most until things change again....LaTech has plenty of teams to schedule football games with and does not need a conference

10 LaTech went west to make their own destiny and I do not think they are giving up on making their own destiny especially to go back to a potentially unstable belt

11. If the belch can't land LaTech and loses other schools and then has to resort to move ups there is a better than good chance that others would want no part of that and would be looking for something new even if it means forming a new conference and leaving the remainder of the belch and their potential move ups out in the cold and looking for a home....I believe LaTech fans would rather take that chance and or play independent for a year or two on that chance VS have a gun held to their head by the belch

this guys is just nuts. I bolded a few parts of his post that proved that.

RE: Texas State Info
Obvious since that is the WAC board you aren't going to see a lot of love for the Sun Belt or the idea of jumping ship to join us, but I imagine that both Texas State and UTSA fans are hoping their program is the one we choose to join our ranks. the WACk is on life support and everyone knows it, those two and Tech are all treading water in the ocean hoping we throw them a rope to get on board our ship as it sails by in the night.

Texas State . . sure, toss them the rope

UTSA . . whatever, better than Tech

La Tech . . do not toss them the rope . . let them go their own way . . they do not need the SBC and the SBC does not need them.

I gave up around the point that I saw the post about how there is no way a WAC member would join the SBC, and how they should start talking about bringing ULL into the WAC.

RE: Texas State Info
the WAC folks have been so convinced they are going to steal away Louisiana and stAte for a while now. 01-wingedeagle

I think at this point, the core group of stAte, Louisiana, Troy, MTSU, FAU, and WKU are pretty solid together. We are the heart of the League now and I really don't see us breaking up. That is in no way a knock on any of our other members in any way, I just see these 6 institutions as the core of the Sun Belt Conference.

Texas State Profile

- Austin DMA

- $119 million endowment
- Emerging Research University
- $20 million athletics budget

Basketball

- This is where we struggle, but Head Coach Davalos' contract is up this year and is not likely to be renewed. Expect Texas State to engage in a national search like they did when ultimately choosing Coach Fran

OK...so how many seats in your basketball arena and what's your average attendance? Got pics? Frankly, I've never heard of Tx State in the NCAA tourney.

Strahan Coliseum holds 7200 people, but it is best known for 'The Wall'.

As Mint mentioned, winning puts butts in the seats and our basketball team has struggled for awhile. We are averaging 2000 for Mens games and 1200 for Womens this season.

Last season we averaged 2100. Which would have been lower half of the SBC last season.

Many wonder the same thing. I believe that eventually they are going to open it up to completely enclose the floor with seating, but there has to be a need due to attendance.

Also it would be nice if they could take away some of the upper seats all the way around and turn them into bow suites that they could lease. It would decrease current capacity, but opening the wall would offset that and expand the capacity.
