They were happy to take WVU's and TCU's money but didn't want to help Boise out. If they did this invite never happens. I think it's all on Temple. This is part of the problem with having teams with different affiliations (BB only, all-sports, etc.). Just look at what the Big 12 was able to do to get WVU, they ponied up some $$ up front to get them in. Hard to believe but the BE has bigger leadership issues than us.

Once again, WVU and Temple/Boise aren't directly comparable. The Big 12 faced breaching its TV contracts and a major revenue loss if they didn't add a tenth member for the 2012 season.

The Big East isn't in that situation. They could go with seven teams next year though they obviously prefer not to. The Big East also has good reason to avoid setting the precedent of paying a new members exit fees since they likely will have to replace departing teams in the future. Furthermore, Boise requested not only that the BE pay its MWC exit fees, but also its WAC entrance fee and waive the BE entrance fee. It's not surprising that the BE passed on doing so.

It remains to be seen whether the BE is willing to provide Temple any assistance to move to the BE. They could, for example, accelerate the timetable for Temple to receive a full share of TV revenue. They would avoid paying any money directly on Temple's behalf and also avoid formally waving any portion of Temple's entrance fee, but it would be a tangible benefit to Temple nonetheless. We'll just have to wait and see what the final agreement looks like.

It isn't setting a precedent necessarily. They are getting a windfall of money from TC, WVU and even Pitt and Cuse upcoming. This is a unique situation. They were throwing around the idea of some FB teams playing home and home series. Another option was filling their open slots with a 2nd FCS team. As if the BE didn't have enough image problems with being the weakest AQ BCS conference. If the BE wasn't up against the wall they never extend an invite to Temple (if they have).

They need to get this over with. I need the schedule ASAP because my October and November are already getting booked up with weddings for not so close friends and random kids birthday parties!

I think you're going to be disappointed. You aren't going to get to revel in schadenfreude. It appears that Villanova doesn't have the votes to keep Temple out this time.

I like MAC football. I lurked on this board and watched MAC games on TV long before Temple was added to the conference. I'll continue to do so after Temple leaves. I really do want the MAC to get the best deal possible out of Temple's departure. I think tht money could be well used for things like having more money available to help MAC teams pay for bowl game ticket guarantees.

I won't be disappointed if they leave. They have no desire to be in the MAC. That goes for both the fan base and the AD. I want the MAC to get to all-sports only programs. Temple leaving is the first step towards that.

That being said, I also don't want the MAC to bend over and let them go without a fair settlement. In my mind probably double the contracted payout (I'm sick of teams, coaches, etc. signing contracts and then bailing with little or no penalty). I think future games will be part of the settlement, but they should be in addition to the penalty assessed.

I agree that all future additions to the MAC should be for all sports with the possible exclusion of Service Academies (which ain't happening anyway).

Fine. Let's give the academies and ND only that exception!

I would exclude the Chicago Bulls if they'd choose to come basketball only.

Wouldn't we welcome WV soccer too?

I would choose the actual media source.... http://www.csnphilly.com/ncaa/news/Templ...feedID=697

I don't think you have a vote if you don't have the buyout number... the buyout number I am hearing is nothing close to what many want.

+1

Are games with the "Big Least" really worth that much anymore? As mentioned in another thread, use the money to strengthen football and basketball in the MAC.

Any amount of money we get in just dollars will be worth more for the collective ego of this board than it will for the actual institutions receiving this money.

Its also about respect for the Conference. The amount of the penalty will be publicized, and the other conferences need to know the MAC demands respect via a swelled early exit fee...

If Temple wants to inconvenience all of our member schools with an early exit, then reimburse us for the privilege to do so.. I hope they have fun not winning championships in another conference.

RE: Temple Gone Before the 2012 Football Season?
Make them basically buyout all the games they have to cancel for a 2 year period. Either on the realignment board or here Temple fans are saying that games with them are worth $500,000(when trying to sell the low payout and still scheduling games to make up the rest). So $500,000 * 16 = $8,000,000 plus the exit fee of $2,500,000 = 10,500,000. Not sure how much the few basketball games that they've been scheduling against us are worth but throw those in there too. I would much rather my school have the money, I don't care to play them in the future.

Isn't there some "not nearly as cool as the old Big East but we're still calling it the Big East" chat room you should be haunting? Write a check and go beat some more 5-7 football teams... See Ya.

I'm just concerned that he goes to random kids birthday parties. Have the proper authorities been notified?
