A big if, but I would carry it a bit further, If Coach Murphy continues to be successful with winning and recruiting, Eastern could at least challenge U-M for being a top program in the State.
Why not? 1991-92, we were the best team in the state.

He seems to have it all on the offensive end. Fast, gets to the lane, good shooter, solid court vision, uses both hands very well, incredible hops...plus he's 6'3. I think he is going to be our starting PG from day one. If he buys into busting his ass on the defensive end in the 2-3, he could end up being a VERY special player.

Next season is going to be a blast to watch.

Ray will make DaShonte' a much, much better player.

No way in hell I'm believing that until I see it with my own eyes. Riley has shown me NOTHING. He's got a lot of proving to do.

While I think Bryant and Harrison will do nothing but help the frontcourt next year an open question is are they are going to be more productive than Riley has shown in his first season at EMU? The key next year will be the guard play-both consistent shooting and at PG. I'm not as sold on Still as some here are, those JUCO stats look great but so did Harpers and it hasn't translated to being productive in Div I so far. Ross appears to be a great kid from a great program but he is still a freshmen so the learning curve is there.

Hopefully we are done for 2012 because yes I like to see what happens with all the Michigan talent out there for 2013.

'79:

Harper was a WMU recruit. And rated two stars (by Rivals.com)

Still as a Big East recruit and rated three stars.

Still, on paper, should be a much better prospect.

I believe Still averaged less than 2 points and 2 rebounds his first year as a Div I player at Providence. The MAC isn't the Big East and he got some playing time at Henry Ford. Hopefully he's productive.

Scout confirming what we already knew, they have Lee ranked 20th at PG:

RE: Eastern gets Ray Lee!!!
Projected 2012/13 depth chart, just for ish and giggles:

PG: Lee/Harper/Ross/Chandler?
SG: Thompson/Sims
SF: Bryant/Harrison/Strickland
PF: Harris/Still
C: Riley/Balkema

-I think Glenn Bryant has a chance to be a stud for us. In his sophomore year at Arkansas, he averaged 4 pts, 3 boards, and 1.7 blocks(!) in 12 minutes. His "per 30 minutes" numbers would be about 10 pts, 8 boards, and 3.5 blocks. That's pretty solid for a kid who was probably the 4th scoring option anytime he was on the court.

-We should have LOTS of depth next year, but I wonder if one of the kids leaves the program? Especially at guard, where we have a bit of a log jam.

-Our big guys should benefit greatly from a penetrating guard like Ray Lee. If he can stay in control with the ball, guys like Harris, Riley, and Bryant should get some easy dunks.

-I think we'll be saddled with some expectations next year. We will, in all likelihood, be picked to finish either first or second in the West (along with Toledo). It was nice being the underdog this year (although we've been in first in the west for quite a while now), but I'm interested to see how Murphy and co. will respond to these expectations. All I know is that I'm excited to find out.

WELL DONE MURPHY!!!!!

I have a feeling that in a few years, we will have a program on par with Akron, Kent State, and Ohio.
How about having a program on par with Eastern Michigan University--the Ben Braun years. You know, a quality MAC program that can win some games in the Big Dance. We can do better than Akron, Kent, and Ohio.

I know what you mean, but Ohio defeated a nationally ranked Georgetown program a few years ago, and KSU has been excellent for over a decade. I'd be ecstatic with that type of success.

Only Riley will make Riley a significantly better player.

I'm sort of expecting Harrison to start at the 2 guard and Thompson to be our super sixth man/ instant offense guy. Harrison has skills - I'm almost as excited to see him as I am to see Bryant.

I'd be fine with that. I expect both guys to play a lot. Murph will have a few guys who can play multiple positions.

By all rights, that should be the case with Riley. The guy was the 9th rated center in the nation coming out of high school. There was no logical reason for him playing so uninspired this season. I really, really want to believe that he will be much better next season, because if he is, we will win the MAC championship.

WHOA!!!!!

i'm late to the party. this is fantastic. Lee was the kind of recruit that seemed too good to be true. my head is buzzing right now.

TONS of potential on next year's team. i'm interested to see where the leadership comes from. it's a strange situation when people show up from all over (transfers, carryovers, freshmen) with different pedigrees.
